"The Deafening Silence of the Religious Right"

Greetings, fellow Blog Readers, from the Christian Liberal.

Since I'm not going to be paying any attention to the GOP convention in NYC next week, doesn't it strike anyone as odd that the main "town Criers" of the GOP Religious Right Wing - Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and James Dobson, et al, have not been invited to the GOP Convention Party next week?

Since GeeDubya is running on a platform that he says God told him to do what he has done with our country, one would think that those who are "blessed" to have God's ear, would be front and center stage, shouting at the top of their lungs about the "goodness of Jesus" and so on. Yet, there is silence coming from these individuals, and they won't be in attendance at the party for God's Own (so they think). Why is that?

Why aren't they going to be where all of America can see them, warts and all? Why are they hiding? What do they have to hide? Why is GeeDubya treating them like a mistress that he doesn't want to be seen with, yet wants them around whenever he's challenged on his policies, his unfulfilled promises, his self-perceived mandates? I tell you, the absence of Falwell, Dobson, Robertson, et al, is speaking loudly and in volumes that cannot be ignored!

Jesus tells us that we, who are Christians, who are ashamed to own Him before men, He will be returning the favor come Judgement Day. Since GeeDubya is "born-again" and is assured (somewhat) of his salvation, you would think that he'd not want to do anything that might jeopardize his standing with the Lord, wouldn't you? Yet, his non-invitation of these "illustrious members" of the Religious Right, is tantamount to disowning Jesus, yet calling on Him when the fire get too hot. Why can Dubya trot out God when he's questioned or challenged, yet not place HIM center stage, when he's asking the country for another four years to keep making messes and telling us that God's telling him to make the messes, during a week of, ahem, "holy" festivity? If one knows God is in complete agreement with that individual's actions, and has even, in fact, given His blessing on these actions, would you keep that information to yourself, or would you shout it from purple mountains majesty and above the fruited plain?

My own speculation on their "non-invitations" and no-shows/orders to keep away, is that:

The truth about their agenda, including a blatant attempt to facilitate the events of the Apocalypse before God has set it in motion, will turn off undecided and moderate voters. Why vote if you're being told that the world is going to end, regardless of Kerry or Dubya getting elected?

That their truth about homosexuals, liberals, social program supporters, minorities, etc., is NOT the truth as the Bible teaches, but it would be revealed as an ugly truth and an equally ugly plan to facilitate intolerance, discrimination, racism, sexism, elitism, class warfare and zenophobic pronouncements that they try to wrap up in God's Word and present themselves as the ultimate authority to interpret what God is saying to America. As if God doesn't have followers around the globe; yet this bunch would tell you that God blesses America and no one else.

How arrogant can you get? Yet, if they were in attendance at the GOP convention, this arrogance and disregard for those not drunk on the Kool-Aid, their lack of compassion for the poor, their contempt for the have-nots, would be captured by major media outlets who would do their best to "spin" it positively , but some things could not be denied, no matter how good the spin is.

That they might get caught, ahem, "witnessing" to all those Hookers coming into town to sell their "goods" LOL. Would we be treated to a repeat of Jimmy Swaggert's "I have sinned against you" speech from the likes of Robertson, Falwell, Dobson, Ralph Reed, or "Hot-Tub" Tom DeLay , "Cat-Killer" Bill Frist, Orrin Hatch, and Rick "I belong in a Sanitorium" Santorum, if they are caught with their pants down by, say, Larry Flynt or Howard Stern? Is it me, or does the GOP really has major issues regarding sex and sexuality, and those issues are not healthy, and may frighten them to the point they feel they can control it by legislating it? As you will recall, Rev. Swaggert was caught with a $15 dollar hooker who wanted a pay increase (of $25) to provide the good pastor with a private peep show. Because he was too cheap to pay the extra $10.00, we got treated to a scandal...and his ministry lost millions of dollars because of his "sin". Jim Bakker lost his whole empire as a result of his sin with Jessica Hahn (who, by the way, said that she was paid by Jerry Falwell to set up Bakker and destroy him. I didn't think men of the cloth did that, but I digress)

What do I mean by "witnessing"? I meant the term to be used in a totally carnal way...in a hotel room...out of sight. And the activities will not include neither teaching, nor witnessing and shouting about Jesus, except for those caught up in sexual ecstasy...and calling out Jesus' name in the throes of orgasm (sorry, the Christian Liberal is not a prude, and I'm also relating this with just a hint of sarcasm, LOL).

Those of you who can stomach the GOP love fest next week, I will pray for your survival and hope you will share with us your story of what you saw, and how it turned your intestines. I may peep in, because we should all know what the enemy is up to. Until next time, God Bless You, stay focused, take care and take charge!
