Image Crediting: 1. Researching Attributions for Images That Lack Them

This is a step-by-step example of the process of sleuthing out image attribution info. This example uses an image, posted without any attribution info. Best guess: Public domain -- because this image looked like an illustration from the 1800s or very early 1900s (during which time etchings, engravings, pen and ink drawings or other black and white images with a very wide range of grey values were popular. But being reasonably sure wasn't enough, and finding attribution is tricky when you don't know the name of the image or the artist.
