DNC and  Democratic Candidates Must Mix Positive Visions of America With Bush Bashing.

Tonight, I received an email from the Democratic National Committee (DNC). See below.

The DNC sends out emails like this every week or two. Every single one is an attack on Bush or Republicans. No wonder, and with good reason, that right wing dittohead radio talk show hosts accuse the Democrats of not having a positive vision of the future, of only criticizing. Why would anyone vote for someone who only criticizes and never leads with vision. The DNC needs to start showing the vision and leadership that the people comprising the democrat party so richly demonstrate.

The Howard Dean sends out numerous emails every day-- to the press, to supporters. Why shouldn't the DNC learn from the most successful democratic internet campaign in history. They should be sending out emails every few days, at the least, or better, daily. By getting positions and visions out to the public, the DNC will start showing real leadership.

It's been said (by Al Sharpton, I think) that getting democrats to agree and cooperate is like herding cats. So it's not an easy task I am setting for the DNC. But it is an important one that will make a difference.

There may be seasoned, even grizzled politico veterans who argue that this is the kind of stuff that comes out of the Party convention platform. And there may be some truth in that, but we need to spend the next year, not just the last ninety days before the election getting Democratic policy out there.  Otherwise the Democrats will, as has been the pattern, allow the right wing media to take pot-shots at their straw man "theoretical" guesses of what Democratic policy is. They'll continue to accuse us of not having positive visions of the future of America. If necessary, we can use the 2000 Democratic platform that brought Al Gore more votes than George W. Bush in the 2000 election.

Of course, it is not enough for the DNC to blend positive visions with Bush Bashing. The Democratic candidates for president must also include positive visions of America's future with their attacks on Bush. Failure to do so is a failure to show visionary leadership.  It's not enough to have a list of ideas on the website. They must voice these visions on an almost daily basis and in each publicized debate, so they clearly show the public they have more to offer than complaints and, as the right accuses, whining criticism.

George Bush and his administration are such a bunch of lying, corrupt, corporate dupes, selling out the nation that it is a natural reflex to want to point out the litany of wrongs they commit. But this is a mistake. We must not allow them to get away with their violations of Americans' trust. But we must also go the extra distance and express our positive visions of the future. If we keep on pointing out the Bush administration abuses while also keeping our heads held high, focused on making America a better, more hopeful place where all can be proud of a shared dream and set of goals, we will have a much better chance of sweeping Bush and his cohorts out of the Whitehouse.

I've written my own article: A Positive, Liberal Vision of The Future; 37 Ways Democrats Will Make the USA Better. Each candidate should have one of these. Actually. It's not a bad exercise for every Democrat to engage in. If enough of us do it, we might reach more concensus than is usual for a herd of cats.

New DNC Ad: Accountability, Not Cover-Ups

Dear Rob Kall,

Recently, the Bush White House illegally disclosed the identity of an American CIA agent in order to hide the administration's deceptions about the war in Iraq.

But instead of finding out who is responsible for the leak and holding them accountable, President Bush last week told America that "I don't know if we're going to find out" who leaked the name of an undercover CIA operative.

So instead of presidential leadership we're getting excuses, cover-ups, denials, and diversions from the Bush White House.

It's time to hold them accountable -- America deserves answers. That's why the Democratic Party is launching a new online ad campaign calling for an independent investigation by a special counsel to find out the truth.

We need to keep the pressure on, otherwise the truth may never come out.

Leaks like these put our national security at risk, and threaten the men and women who protect us. Even worse, a senior Bush administration official admitted to the Washington Post that the purpose of the leak was "purely and simply for revenge." [Washington Post, 9/28/03]

President Bush won't hold his administration accountable for their illegal actions, so it's up to the American people. Click here to make a secure online donation to put this ad on TV and support Democratic efforts everywhere.

According to a new ABC/Washington Post poll, more than 80 percent of Americans believe the leak is a serious issue, and only 39 percent believe the Bush White House is fully cooperating fully with an investigation. If we don't keep the pressure on President Bush and the White House to come clean about the illegal disclosure of an undercover CIA agent's identity, the truth may never be known.
