I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and thought everyone else in the world was liberal too. I started university in Colorado and decided I liked skiing much more than classes. I moved to Lake Tahoe to teach ski lessons for a year and ended up back in Minneapolis where I came out at 23. I went back to school at the U of M, spent a year studying in Milan, Italy, and graduated with an English Degree in '97. In '99 I moved to New York to work in publishing. I live in downtown Brooklyn and worked in downtown Manhattan on 9/11. I was home that day and watched the towers fall from the Brooklyn Promenade. I have been protesting the US response since before the invasion of Afghanistan. My partner of 4 years is from Croatia and has been here through university, graduate school, and working on an H1B visa through the last 12 years. He is now near the end of his visa and we are at our wits end trying to get him Permanent Residence status. What an eye-opener this experience has been!
