Tuesday, March 2, 2010 Corporate Supremacy --Still! by Mumia Abu-Jamal
"Corporations have the right to spend unlimited amounts of money on politicians?!" - "outrageous!" Really? While people have every right to be outraged, we should inform our outrage, for, in truth, corporate interests have owned the political process -- and politicians -- for the better part of a century.

What we, the dispossessed, have most needed-lawyers, writers, poets, organizers, educators-have largely come from us. Forged out of struggle, we are the products of state oppression. Mumia Abu-Jamal says it best in his conclusion, the "Afterword." We are "men and women, often self-taught, [who] have developed a tradition of selfless service and in some cases excellence, to serve the needs of society's dispossessed."

Wednesday, March 11, 2009 Mumia Abu-Jamal's new book on Jailhouse Lawyers just released online
Mumia Abu-Jamal's new book JAILHOUSE LAWYERS: PRISONERS DEFENDING PRISONERS V. THE USA, featuring an introduction by Angela Y. Davis, is now available. In Mumia's words, "This is the story of law learned, not in the ivory towers of multi-billion-dollar endowed universities [but] in the bowels of the slave-ship, in the hidden, dank dungeons of America ... It is law learned in a stew of bitterness, under the constant threat of violence, in places where millions of people live, but millions of others wish to ignore or forget. It is law written with stubs of pencils, or with four-inch-long rubberized flex-pens, with grit, glimmerings of brilliance, and with clear knowledge that retaliation is right outside the cell door. It is a different perspective on the law, written from the bottom, with a faint hope that a right may be wronged, an injustice redressed. It is Hard Law."

Friday, November 14, 2008 Mumia Abu-Jamal: 'Day of Days'
Unlike any election in generations, this race drew out enormous numbers of first-time voters, and young folks between 18 and 30. Indeed, Obama carried all age groups up to those over 65. This was, in sheer historical terms, an impressive political event.
Thursday, November 13, 2008 Mumia Abu-Jamal on President Obama
We cannot deny its symbolic value. In millions of Black homes, his picture will be placed on walls, beside Martin, John F. Kennedy, and a pale painting of Jesus. I'd be that quite a few African homes (especially in Kenya) will also boast his smiling visage. But beyond symbol is substance, and substantively, some scholars have defined Obama as little different from his predecessors.
Thursday, November 6, 2008 Update on political prisoner Ruchell Cinque Magee (1 comments)
"All right gentlemen, hold it right there.we're taking over!" Armed to the teeth, Jonathan Jackson, 17, George's, younger brother, had raided the Marin Courtroom and tossed guns to prisoners William Christmas and James McClain, who in turn invited Ruchell to join them. Ru seized the hour spontaneously as they attempted to escape by taking a judge, assistant district attorney and three jurors as hostages in that audacious move to expose to the public the brutally racist prison conditions and free the Soledad Brothers (John Clutchette, Fleeta Drumgo, and George Jackson).
