Thursday, September 1, 2011 Medicare for none?
Many activists on the Left want Medicare for all. But the way things are going, it seems we're more likely to get Medicare for none. The Supreme Court may decide next next year whether "Obamacare" is unconstitutional. Along the way, they may declare Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare unconstitutional.

Saturday, March 5, 2011 Notes on Dennis Kucinich's talk in Olympia
The greatest cheers from the audience came when Kucinich called for prosecution of Bush Administration officials. "If there's any justice in the world, every high ranking official in the Bush Administration must be brought to justice." The lies were deliberate. There must be accountablity.

Thursday, January 21, 2010 Blame Obama, run into the loving arms of the GOP (4 comments)
Instead of change, Obama has delivered more of GWB: corporatism, corruption, giveaways to the rich, and militarism. He wants to look forward, not backwards. He allowed the GOP to escape accountability.
Saturday, January 16, 2010 Obama's conservatism is harming the Democratic Party (6 comments)
Obama's conservatism is alienating the Democratic base, and Republicans are likely to benefit. MoveOn.org sent me email asking me to phonebank for Martha Coakley, but the webpage was hosted by MyBarackObama.com, so I feel disinclined to help them out.
Sunday, December 13, 2009 Movie review of "Precious"
If you're not moved and inspired by this film, you have a heart of stone. But it's not sentimental and not without humor. Much of the acting is phenomenal.

I got this email from Color of Change (ColorOfChange.org), which is working to counter conservative extremist Glenn Beck's baseless and hyperbolic attacks on Obama and Van Jones.
Thursday, September 3, 2009 Blackberry bushes grow like weeds in the Seattle area (5 comments)
This short video shows me picking blackberries across the street from my house. Blackberry bushes have thorns but the berries are delicious. The bushes grow like weeds in the Seattle area -- along trails and roads, and in backyards.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 Right wing protesters steal progressives' thunder
The right wing's teabagging protests underscore the superior coordination of conservatives and the apparent fecklessness of the Left. The right wingers are stealing the methods of the Left and, perhaps, winning at it. Or maybe the press simply gives the Right more coverage.
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 Target's book aisle has only conservative attack books (3 comments)
I visited my local Target store and was browsing their book aisle. In the "recent releases" section there was one shelf with political titles. All four of them were conservative attack books.

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 Gawamde on health care reform: single-payer is not enough (5 comments)
There's an intelligent article by Harvard Medical School Associate Professor Atul Gawande in a recent New Yorker. A single payer health care system will reduce overheads and set the foundation for reform, but it is not in itself sufficient.
Thursday, October 29, 2009 Glimmers of hope
There are glimmers of hope about Obama and the Dems. They are taking real steps towards reform.
