The vast majority of this country are in the lower to medium middle-class or poor, and those in the Middle class are struggling to outwit the stench of poverty. The Mayor’s Annual Survey on HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS SURVEY revealed some startling statistics, and last year will be nothing compared to 2008.

• The average length of stay for persons in emergency shelter and transitional housing decreased
from 2006. Cities reported that for households with children, the average length of a single stay
was 5.7 months in 2007. For singles, the average length of a single stay was reported as 4.7
months. In 2006, cities reported that an average length of stay was 8 months for both populations.

• Cities also reported that they are not meeting the need for providing shelter for homeless persons.
Twelve cities (52 percent) reported that they turn people away some or all of the time.

A number of cities reported that there were notable changes in the characteristics of persons receiving
emergency food assistance during the last year. Louisville, Los Angeles and Boston reported seeing
more elderly people seeking emergency food assistance than in previous years. San Francisco, Los
Angeles, Salt Lake City and Boston all reported seeing more families in need. Louisville reported
seeing more single-parent families, and Nashville and Detroit reported seeing more working families.
The working poor were among the populations cited by Trenton, Denver and Philadelphia. Trenton,
Denver and Nashville reported seeing more first-time recipients and having clients that they had not
seen in many years return for assistance. LINK

The decision to use corn to produce ethanol has been disastrous to the Average American, and we can all see the incredible rise in prices in everyday commodities such as milk, eggs, beef, pork, and chicken, and the high wheat prices are affecting the prices which the very staples that the population exists upon. Furthermore, research by the Natural Resource Defense Council suggests that excessive land use to grow corn could potentially devastate the soil as well as finely-attuned agricultural ecosystems that require a delicate balance of plant diversity. Critics of corn-based ethanol contend that the rising prices of corn will incite farmers to plant only corn instead of rotating crops at regular intervals. Repeated corn crops could remove vital minerals and nutrients from the soil, resulting in lower yields. LINK

The Cons of Using Ethanol

It’s easy for politicians to get behind ethanol. For them, it’s a solution to several problems. Ratcheting up rhetoric about reducing American dependence on foreign oil opens the door for BOTH increased domestic petroleum production and the pursuit of new energy sources. One of these (bioethanol) also boosts the government’s bottom line in at least three ways: less money spent on CRP; less money spent in farm subsidies spurred by historic overabundances of corn; and greater revenue from now-booming farms’ income taxes, refinery taxes, and, yes, even fuel taxes (ethanol can’t be pipelined — it must be trucked to wherever it’s being blended or used)…

And because of the widespread misapprehension that ethanol adaptation is a net positive for the environment, politicians also get to appear “green” — while pocketing lots more of the only kind of green that really matters to them.

So no wonder Bush and friends are all about ethanol. Big Oil isn’t necessarily hurt by the movement (it may even be helped domestically), Big Agro gets a major boost from it, and the tree-huggers are appeased even as they LOSE a major battle in their fight to protect the environment. And as usual, the feds laugh all the way to the bank! LINK

For 2008 even more farmland will be devoted to growing corn, and with it, the cost of our staples will rise, causing those on fixed-income and the poor and middle-class to spend even more with stagnant wages that are being gobbled-up by inflation, directly caused by the failed domestic policies of George. W. Bush and the Gallop Poll indicates that Bush is the “Most Admired Man in America?”

Even at the Rose Bowl Parade, Americans were protesting against this President, and sadly, protesters were booed, the rationale was that the Parade of Roses was not the place for such a demonstration. The people at the parade were unlikely aware that the Mainstream News Media is corrupt, and those who seek to restore Democracy in America are attempting to do anything peaceful that will draw those that still exist in complacency and ignorance that Bush is systematically destroying our country. Waking up the bulk of the population is a daunting task, especially when we’re fighting against a MSM that refuses to air the truth.
