Ken Blackwell, a criminal who was one of the prime perpetrators of the theft of the 2004 presidential election, has been confirmed as the Republican candidate for the governorship of Ohio.
RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman commented, "I have often said that the Republican Party -- the Party of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass -- cannot be truly whole until it welcomes more African Americans back home. Great candidates like Ken Blackwell are one of the many ways we are doing exactly that. The Republican Party is united in its support for Ken Blackwell and will work together to ensure his historic election."
What a surprise. The corrupt Republicans pick a despicable, corrupt criminal to use as their African American showpiece. Well, what would we expect, someone with real integrity? We're talking the friends of Jack Abramoff and Tom DeLay.
Blackwell ran against his opponent, attorney General Jim Petro, 56% to 44%. Blackwell used attack ads claiming his opponent was a part of "coingate," which has sullied much of Ohio politics.
But Blackwell is known throughout the world as the black man who kept black voters waiting in lines for upwards of eight hours. He is known for paying the man in charge of voting who did what he could, allegedly legal and illegal, which helped give Bush the linchpin Ohio victory which won him the presidency. Among progressives he is reviled as one of the worst criminals of the century. Magnifying the obscenity of this state's sordid election history, Blackwell was in charge of the elections.
Who knows if Blackwell actually won the election of just fixed it, with his access to the technology, the voter eligibility rolls, etc. It would seem to be the logical conclusion to draw, at least from my perspective.
Blackwell's opponent in the November elections will be Democratic U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, who handily defeated his primary opponent.
This is one race that democrats, progressives and advocates around the nation will want to get involved in. If Ken Blackwell wins the governorship, his corrupt, dirty influence will grow like a cancer.
Ted Strickland is a populist candidate who OpEdNews has mentioned positively before.

A few declarations.
-While I'm registered as a Democrat, I consider myself to be a dynamic critic of the Democratic party, just as, well, not quite as much, but almost as much as I am a critic of republicans.
-My articles express my personal opinion, not the opinion of this website.
As an Ohio resident, I've seen Blackwell's work for years, and he's a classic ethically-challenged, Uncle Tom corporatist. Because he's also in charge of the state's electoral system (How is that?), he's certain to make every effort to re-use the tricks brought out in 2004.
The best assurance against this chicanery is overwhelming support for Strickland. The conniving Blackwell can steal a few percentage points of votes, but no way to overcome a landslide loss.
THROW THE BUMS OUT!

I was a poll worker on Tuesday in Hamilton County,
Ohio, which is one of the most woefully "publiTrash" counties in the state. I'm not sure if Blackwell pulled
another 2004 or not, although some problems DID happen in a neighboring county (Clermont). The BOE there would not let the Deputy director (who was the only Democrat) do her duties, and locked her out of the building. The election proceeded with NO Democratic oversight. When Mr.Blackwell was contacted, he refused to act, as was his duty......Now the defeated candidate in the house race Bob McEwen is grumbling, and talking about a possible recount.... Nice to hear one of them bitching about THEIR systems...
