Alexandria, VA - You remember the ancient story about the Trojan Horse . . . The Greeks had laid siege to the city of Troy for ten years without conquering it. Finally they devised a brilliant plan: they built a huge wooden horse, hollow inside, and offered it to the Trojans as a peace offering. They told the Trojans that they were giving up and going home, and that this horse was to be a symbol of peace between the two peoples. But hiding inside the horse were dozens of well-armed Greek soldiers, waiting to come out.

The Trojans happily accepted the wooden horse and the apparent surrender of the Greeks; and they brought the horse inside the city walls, and started to celebrate their supposed victory. But after dark, the Greek soldiers emerged from the wooden horse, killed the guards, and opened the gates of the city. The Greek army then came pouring in, conquered the city, and won the war. Or something like that.

Well, that's very similar to what will happen if the Christian Conservatives continue to support the Bush Machine's favorite judge, Samuel Alito, for a seat on the Supreme Court.

On the outside, Judge Alito looks very appealing to the Christian Conservatives, because he has a strong and clear record of believing that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. That, coupled with his pro-life Catholic faith, appears to be a sure vote for overturning the hated Roe. v. Wade decision which legalizes abortions in the United States.

But lurking within Judge Alito, despite his outward modesty and diffidence, is a strong and well-documented belief in the "Unitary Executive Theory." This radical, dangerous political theory asserts that the President should have King-like powers, and that Congress should be more like an advisor than an actual lawmaker. This is the same theory Hitler believed in, under the name of "Fuehrerprinzip," or "Leadership Principle." It is a version of the ancient "King-with-advisors" form of Government, where the King makes all the real decisions and the people simply go along. In fact, Alito himself helped to develop the "signing statement" strategy which Bush has used constantly with the Unitary Executive theory to subvert the power of laws he disagrees with, most recently the anti-torture laws enacted by Congress. The Unitary Executive Theory is a recipe for Dictatorship, and it stands in direct opposition to "Government of the People, by the People and for the People," as established in our Constitution.

For details, please see my website at www.UnitaryExecutive.net

Therefore I urge all Christian Conservatives (which I am not, by the way) to join with me and the other opponents of the Samuel Alito nomination in a Strategic Alliance, for this issue only, to defeat Alito in the coming Senate vote. The Roe v. Wade issue can wait for a while. The immediate danger to our Country is the emerging Dictatorship of George W. Bush.

Blessings to you. May God help us all. And may God bless America!
