1. We must be careful not to offend the Average American (AvAm)
2. Self-righteousness is such a turn-off
3. We can't give ammunition to the right wing
4. The AvAm is doing the best he/she can and we shouldn't expect more
5. We can't blame the AvAm because she/he just doesn't know better
6. The AvAm will learn at his/her own pace
7. It's not our place to judge
8. Besides, it's not the AvAm's fault; the Republicans are to blame
9. The AvAm may be indifferent (at best) to reality...but they are still "the people"
10. Why bother? It'll just increase the chances of being arrested and it's way too late anyway

customer service flunky for a major insurance company. Have 2 Master's degrees, have studied abroad, and like many of my generation (Gen X) are underpaid and underemployed for our levels of education compared to previous generations. Scraping by while looking for my ideal career.

Good post

The AvAms will be roundly condemned by future generations the same way the AvGerms were in the 1930s.

Didn't Plato say something along the lines of "the price of inattention to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men."

AvAms are Bush's willing executioners, to paraphrase/steal a bit from Prof. Goldhagen.

Most AvAms probably have no idea who General Smedley Butler was, or know much about his book _War is a Racket_.

True then, ever more true now.

As an 81 year old vet of WW11 I fear that the current zionist/neocon administration represents the greatest threat to the dream and promise of our founding fathers that we have thus far faced. Unless this congress abides by it oath to protect and defend the constitution, I hold little hope that we can avoid a fascist take over.

av/am

I have no faith in the av/am. He is to concerned with his survival to worry about the survival of the nation. It is the collective american (the people) who will chart the course for better or for worse, and they will do it simply, as Carl Sandburg put it in his poem "The People Yes", as, "the hallelujah chorus forever changing its star soloist".
