Is Nancy Pelosi Complicit in Torture? by Mary Shaw Page 1 of 1 page(s) |

According to AlterNet,[S]ince 2002 leading Democrats [sic] lawmakers received "about 30 private CIA briefings, some of which included descriptions of waterboarding, overseas rendition sites, and other harsh interrogation methods." Officials present at some of the meetings, told the [Washington] Post that the reaction from legislators "was not just approval, but encouragement."
If this is true, then things are even worse in Washington than I thought.
And it confirms the theory that the Democrats are merely "Republican light".
If this is true, then torture may be tolerated, and perhaps even encouraged, in the foreseeable future by our elected officials on both sides of the aisle, despite what they might tell us in public.
And, if this is true, then it doesn't matter how we voted in 2006, and (perish the thought) it might not matter how we vote in 2008.
Ouch.
This is what we, as a nation, have become.
God bless America. Or, as the other bumper sticker says: Who would Jesus torture?

HELLLOOOO!?
Not since way before we were born have "we the people' had any representation. The whole government, except for a few notable, yet ineffective people, is a Dog & Pony Show to give us the illusion we have some say it policy and who governs us. Dem, Repub, makes no difference, take your pick, we still lose. Our elections are a farce. Our so-called representatives resent us and have no idea what the average Joe faces and frankly don't want to know. Because if we had true representation these pathetic excuses for humans that we now have wouldn't be sucking off the tit of the MIC war-mongers that run the show, they wouldn't be in office to begin with. But, alas, we'll never see any of this. We're way too far gone to fix anything. It's gotten to the point that the entire system will have to collapse under the weight of its inherent corruption before anything will be able to be fixed. That's if there's anything or one left to rebuild it. by Mr M (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 66 diaries, 2845 comments [654 recommended, 27 rejected]) on Wednesday, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:38:25 PM

No wonder impeachment is off the table
It looks as though Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats have colluded with the Bush administrations torture techniques because she knew about them but did not report them. by Michael Chavers (53 articles, 0 quicklinks, 15 diaries, 198 comments [5 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Wednesday, Dec 12, 2007 at 4:15:36 PM

There was some evidence that Dem leaders were briefed
about torture a couple years ago. It would not have continued without their acquiesence. The big names were Rockefeller and Pelosi. They said they were legally prohibited from discussing it. Deflecting duties fell to Rockefeller (with his impecable credentials). "Our hands are tied! But give us the majority, make Pelosi the Speaker and put 'good Democrats' in charge of committees and we'll change everything!" Uh-huh. The changes are enormous: habeas corpus has been restored, people have renewed confidence in the election process, we don't torture anymore, In fact, Guantanomo is closed. Only one battalion of troops remain in Iraq and they'll be home by Christmas. Oh, I'm so happy that the Democrats are in charge of the House and Senate! by Kathlyn Stone (46 articles, 227 quicklinks, 27 diaries, 690 comments [1 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Wednesday, Dec 12, 2007 at 5:56:32 PM

Torture
Thank you for saying this. I guess now America can join the club of third world nations who oppress the people, defy the laws and rob the treasury.
