Three Strikes Against Obama

If you have drunk the Kool-Aid re: Obama (as have many of my dearest friends), you will not like the following email, and may therefore reflexively dismiss it, or attack it. Either one would be a grave mistake. If you care about what happens on Election Day, you had better take these revelations seriously; for, whether you can handle them or not, rest assured that the Republicans will handle them with all their usual ruthlessness and skill. And once that happens, all the rapturous devotion that you're feeling at this moment will not count for anything.

The point is not that these explosive facts will definitely sway enough of the electorate to put "Bomb-Bomb" McCain behind the presidential desk. Rather, the point is that, even if they don't sway the electorate in reality, they certainly will function as a handy explanation as to why the once-"unbeatable" Obama was, against all odds, "defeated." In any case, whether these facts really turn the tide, or only seem to do so, you had better not just shrug them off, or lose your temper over them. And let me add that this is not a tacit brief for Hillary Clinton, whom I think I've criticized enough not to be charged with carrying water for her. I believe that she too is eminently "beatable," especially by John McCain, in the same way that Obama is: i.e., sufficiently weighed down with certain "negatives" that can be used to help explain whatever fraud might be deployed to "beat" her. Moreover--and, in my book, more important--her campaign has consistently employed the sort of vote suppression tactics that we've properly deplored when the Republicans have used them (and that I do not forgive).

So read this through, and try to keep your cool; because the last thing any of us needs right now is even more irrationality.

Obama's mantra, "Yes, We Can" is inspiring and heartwarming, but in the end is an empty phrase that will founder once the Republican political attack machine spins up. I realize that most Obamatons are so wedded to his vision of hope that any effort to point out the cracks in the foundation of the new Democratic Savior are met with fury and disdain.

If you think for a minute that the Republican party-who used Willy Horton on Michael Dukakis to devastating effect, who portrayed triple amputee and veteran Max Cleland as a bosom buddy of Osama Bin Laden, and convinced many voters that decorated combat veteran John Kerry was a fraud-will give Obama a pass come the fall then you are in serious denial.

But, unlike the attacks on Dukakis, Cleland, and Kerry, the ammunition that Obama has provided to his political foes is significant and deadly. But try telling that to Obama disciples. You get name calling and character assassination (just read the reaction to this piece). At the same time, Obama is treated with a reverence and fawning that I have never seen in my life for a political figure. Chris Matthew's sexual arousal (obviously he's a recovering latent homosexual) was over the top but, unfortunately, typical of the adulation heaped on Obama:
During MSNBC's live coverage of Tuesday's primary elections, after the speech of Barack Obama aired, Chris Matthews breathlessly expressed his admirationŠand extreme excitement for Barack Obama by saying "I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often."

So, while Democrats engage in self-censorship and promote the worst kind of affirmative action pandering in promoting the myth of Obama, the Republicans are keeping mum and, like Brer Rabbit, begging not to be tossed into the briar patch and face the fearsome Obama. (Want to bet how many accusations of racism I will get for referring to Brer Rabbit?)

Obama's untested achilles heel is his relationship with three men-Tony Rezko, William Ayers, and Rashid Khalidi. These names will become shorthand for Corruption, Terrorism, and the Destruction of Israel. Oh yes, I know. I am going to extremes. Well, let me lay out the facts and explain how the Republicans will likely use these relationships to bludgeon Obama's Presidential aspirations into dust.

My challenge to you Obama supporters is to explain to me and other readers of this blog how Obama will defuse these issues.

The Tony Rezko Problem:

There is a growing body of material in the blogosphere on this issue (looseheadprop has an excellent overview), but the mainstream media has paid little attention and most Americans know nothing of Rezko's bribery and corruption trial. Not yet. But that will change starting 25 February, when Rezko goes on trial in Chicago. The best Obama can hope for is an acquittal or mistrial. He cannot deny his longstanding friendship with Rezko. A man who has played a significant role in raising funds for his political campaigns and a man who helped Obama and his wife get the home of their dreams.

But it is highly unlikely that Rezko gets off. He just got nailed for lying to the Judge about his alleged poverty and was promptly arrested for hiding millions of dollars overseas. And he is up against Patrick Fitzgerald. Pat Fitzgerald does not go to court unprepared and does not have a record of losing, particularly in Illinois. Remember, this is the guy who nailed Scooter Libby and the former Governor of Illinois. The boy plays to win.

When Rezko is convicted and, the details of the corruption and bribery charges are fleshed out and the public learns that Senator Obama got some of that dirty cash, do you really believe the public won't care that the Democratic nominee for President is involved with a convicted felon? Hell, this is a political attack ad that writes itself.

The William Ayers Problem:

William Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist, though he is normally described as a distinguished education professor. One does not necessarily rule out the other, but he himself acknowledges planting bombs in U.S. Federal buildings. There is now undeniable proof of a longstanding relationship between Barack Obama and William Ayers. We are not talking about two guys who just happened to bump into one another on the street. We are not talking about a secret admirer (Ayers) who quietly sent $200 to an aspiring politician.

No, we are talking about William Ayers hosting a fundraiser for Barack Obama and actively working with him to secure Barack's first electoral victory in Illinois. But wait, there is more. Barack and Ayers also served on the board of the Woods Fund. And they worked together to give money to some other folks, including a group with ties to the PLO.

What makes Ayers so toxic is his own written record equating U.S. Marines with terrorists. Look at the beating that John Kerry took for tossing his medals over the White House fence. Ayers did not toss medals, he threw bombs. Real ones. Bombs that exploded.

Do you think that Republicans will ignore Obama's ties to Ayers? The two were serving on the same board in 2002. We are talking less than six years ago and the record will come out showing some questionable grants by these two characters. William Ayers, in the age of terrorism, will be Barack Obama's Willie Horton.

The Problem of Rashid Khalidi:

So far, the press has paid little attention to Obama's ties to Rashid Khalidi, Middle East Professor at Columbia University and PLO activist. An article in The Jewish Week from last year offers up this tantalizing tidbit:

Khalidi, now the Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University, and head of that school's Middle East Institute, declined to comment on Abunimah's recollections. But in an interview in Tuesday's Daily News, he said he hosted the fundraiser because he and Obama were friends while the two lived in Chicago. "He never came to us and said he would do anything in terms of Palestinians," Khalidi told the paper.
Nevertheless, one Hyde Park source close to Obama, speaking only on condition of anonymity, recalled, "He often expressed general sympathy for the Palestinians - though I don't recall him ever saying anything publicly."
Obama has made his pilgrimage to AIPAC (funny, but in his campaign against special interests and their grip on Washington he gives AIPAC a pass) and worked to position himself as a friend of Israel. But the relationship with Khalidi has not yet received the white hot media attention that tends to occur during the dog days of July and August, when the press needs a story. And guess who helped broker the appearance of Iran's Ahmadinejad last summer at Columbia University? Professor Khalidi. New York Times had his reaction to the event:
Rashid Khalidi, a professor of Arab studies and director of the Middle East Institute at Columbia, said, "The tone from the host of an event was uncivil and uncalled for.
"The president of the university had every right to state his differences," he said. "That was more than acceptable. But I believe it was embarrassing to the university, frankly, that they should decide to invite him and then treat him in this manner."
Now, which Presidential candidate is calling for talks with Iran? You do not have to be Karl Rove or Lee Atwater to figure out how to tie Obama with Ahmadinejad using Obama's friendship with Khalidi.

I don't know what else is out there on Obama. Unfortunately, the worshipful, servile attitude of many Democrats and media personalities so far has hindered a tough look at Obama's friends and associates and his judgment. But that will come. What should concern Democrats keen on taking back the White House is whether or not these issues will be fully vetted before Obama is installed as the candidate. My guess is no.

And what do Republicans think? I only have anecdotal evidence. I asked an old friend, who served in law enforcement (I'll leave the particular agency out of it) for more than thirty years, about the William Ayers era. There are a lot of Federal agents who believe that Ayers is a terrorist who got away with his crimes and still owes a debt to society. My friend wrote the following to me today:
I think many of my friends believe Obama is beatable; however they concede that Clinton can win. Therefore, the thinking goes, WE hope Obama gets the Democratic nod and THEN flood the gates with information later.
Feelings of hope and inspiration about Obama will evaporate when the commercials tying him to a convicted felon slumlord, an unrepentant terrorist who hates the troops, and a Professor of Middle Eastern Studies who is perceived as a shill for the PLO. Oh, YES THEY WILL! YES, THEY WILL.

Marines and terrorists

So what's wrong with comparing Marines and terrorists?  They are both groups of people who are usually courageous but are stuck in the false mindset that you achieve good ends by killing people.  Soldiers are people like this who are in a state controlled organization, and terrorists are those who are not in a state controlled organization.  Really the only difference.  Americans need to wake up to the fact that much of the rest of the world sees that there isn't a real difference.

Don't see Obama winning

I agree with this. I don't see how a young, far less experienced, black man with no war record can beat a highly experienced & respected " war hero ".

Add in the unknown info ( as of now ) that the author mentions & it's a no-brainer.

Also, Barak wins in caucus states, Hilliary in primary. I think that caucus people want to show off their inspiration & lack of prejudice, BUT, in the privacy of the voting booth on election day, the vote will be otherwise.

Larry C. Johnson; Consider The Source , Mark

Larry C. Johnson has kicked around his theories of international terrorism and related chicanery for decades. Amazingly, despite his supposed expertise and high-powered, high-dollar consultation fees at B.E.R.G. Associates LLC: this man has been spectacularly WRONG more often than not. He first came to prominence when he served as a Deputy Director in Papa Bush's State Department's office of Counterterrorism until Bill Clinton assumed the Presidency. Aviation security was his super duper specialty through the years, he's disconted Osama bin Ladin's capability for doing us harm within our borders. He has appeared countless times in the media, especially at Fox News, as an expert on matters related to international intrigue. His real expertise is self-promotion as his record of imparting useful information is mostly spectacularly misinformed.
Though an Orin Hatch Republican, he's gotten considerable media mileage by concluding the outing of Valerie Plame and our involvement in Iraq was not a good idea, Well, DUH. Most of his brilliance shared with the likes of  Huffington Post, Daily Kos, CNN, MSNBC, Mark Crispin Miller, Fox, etc has not come so easy and thus has not been so well received. In 1996, Johnson informed multiple media audiences that terrorism was on the decline while also stating in a NYtimes oped that our country faces a growing treat from international terrorism. In 1998, he correctly warned us about the treat of bin Laden but in 1999 he told us via Frontline that while bin Laden is a treat he doesn't  have the capability to deliver upon the treat or followers willing to implement his desires to do us harm. He also accused the Clinton Administration of blowing smoke and crying wolf regarding the dangers of
terrorism. In 2000, He decried how ompotent and weak the Clinton administration was regarding terrorism and looked forward to a change in leadership, In 2001, two months before 9/11 Johnson again discounted the treat of bin Laden and terrorism. Two months after (9/11), true to form, Larry approves of the FBI's rounding up 5,000 foreign born students  for questioning. The past several years, Johnson gets his name in print and his face on TV by playing the role of the former GOP insider whose finally seen the light regarding the most egriegious Rovian atrocities.
Meanwhile, I'll get back to you, Mark Crispin, regarding the "rest of the story" involving Johnson's latest  cast of characters.

Swift Boat Racing

Larry Johnson's piece seems basically a " guilt by association " offering masquerading as a warning regarding how supposedly vulnerable Obama may be to GOP   " guilt by association "  offerings.
An examination of  Rezko, Ayers and Khalidi and their alleged ties  to Obama does not appear nearly as malignant as Johnson portrays.
Ayers and Khalidi have for years  been acclaimed, academically revered  and recognized as distinguised college professors.
Ayers is currently at the University of Illinois, Chicago, while Khalidi was for    many years at the University of Chicago, though Khalidi is now a reknowned scholar
specializing in  Middle East Studies  at Columbia University.
Rezko is a wealthy Syrian-American Chicago businessman active in fundraising for  both  parties and shares  a mid-east lineage with Khalidi.Though acclaimed world wide as an authority in the area of Arab-Israeli affairs, Khalidi has been forced to repeatedly deny unfounded  allegiances to the PLO. His crime is really
all about the fact Khalidi has attempted to introduce fairness into discussions related to
Palestinian- Israeli relations.
Matters surrounding Obama's relationship with Antoin Rezko are murkier and more tangential
to the Obamas. The Rezko's sold Obama a home in Chicago which sale was admittedly  facillitated by Rezko's wife's agreeing to buy a large adjoining lot as required by the sellers.
The Obama's later purchased a sixth of that lot at a fair-market value and one assumes the
Rezko's sold the other five-sixths of that lot a tidy sum.
Recently Rezko was indicted  on charges unrelated to Obama which resulted in Obama
severing  all ties to him... including a $65,000.00 campaign  contribution engineered by Rezko.
Incidentally, Hillary Clinton returned an $800,000.00 donation from Norman Hsu at about the   same time The devil in me suspects  McCain and Huckabee were probably having wet dreams.... regarding the size of the respective dollar amounts, certainly not the ethics of it all..
William Ayers has an  obviously despicable past as he was a member of a radical, violent
anti-war group called the Weather Underground.
He even admitted to be involved in bombings of public buildings during the 1960s Viet Nam
protests.Ayers was convicted of his criminal conduct, served his time and by all accounts has resurrected his life in spectacular fashion. However in stark contrast to Johnson's assertion
that Ayers is proud he engaged in bombing,  Ayers is repentent and has publically expressed remorse clearly and unequivocably:
Ayers' published  account of those times featured in his book Fugitive Days offers multiple regrets. In fact. in an  interview with the New York Times in 2001 to promote his book about the Weathermen he said, "I was embarrassed by the arrogance, the solipsism, the absolute certainty that we and we alone knew the way". How Obama's very tangential association with Ayers is even remotely relevant to Obama's fitness to serve is ludicrously mysterious !
Recall Barack Obama was only  nine-years-old at the time of William Ayers' violent anti-war Viet Nam activities. Ayers'  association with the adult Obama consists of their serving on the board of an anti-poverty group in Chicago from 2000-2002.  However, truth does compel, I suppose, the admission Ayers contributed the grand sum of $200.00 to Obama's 2001 campaign for the Illinois State Senate. Both Ayers and Obama deny any ties since they each went off the board of the Woods Fund in 1992.
In view of Hillary's questionable financial past and present, McCain's presence in the starting line-up of the infamous " Keating Five " and Revko's co-chairing a megamillion dollar fund-raiser for President George W. Bush in 2003; I'm happy to take my chances riding  with Barack Obama in any future races of the 'swift boats'.
