Ron Paul Supporters Prove CNBC's Ratings Stink

by Mark Anderson     Page 1 of 2 page(s)

Tell A Friend

After the most recent Republican Party debate on CNBC, the network ran a post-debate poll, which was promptly removed after too many Ron Paul supporters voted.  In all seriousness, the explanation for removal is that Ron Paul supporters voted.  In other words: CNBC didn't like the results, so then removed their own poll.

This prompts the question: if poll results are to be discarded because you don't like the results, then why even run a poll?  This almost causes me to wonder if the "scientific" and "legitimate" polls are also designed to achieve a pre-ordained outcome.  If a polling company gets something other than a desired result, do they change the results, or throw the poll out altogether?

In the CNBC editor's explanation, he writes: "Now Paul is a fine gentleman with some substantial backing and, by the way, was a dynamic presence throughout the debate , but I haven't seen him pull those kind of numbers in any 'legit' poll."

You see?  Pursuant to this calculus, all polls must show the same results - which makes them something other than real polls.  If there is a disparity between two polls, then the one showing Ron Paul in the lead must be wrong, and then discarded.  If, on the other hand, say, Rudy Giuliani had won the poll by a hefty margin, would they have discarded those results as well?

Which prompts the question: if Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, and John McCain are the true front-runners, with legions of fans everywhere, why can't they replicate the same thing Ron Paul supporters are doing?  Where are the supporters for the other candidates?

What exactly makes the offline polls so much more scientific?  In those polls, the polling companies get to choose the respondents.  In online polls, people can choose to respond.  Let's not forget that elections are not conducted the same way polls are.  The media and the polling companies do not get to choose who they want to vote.

Ron Paul has dominated virtually every single post-debate poll, causing the media to ignore and conceal the results of their own polls.  The media has ignored so many Ron Paul debate poll victories that I have lost count.  After Ron Paul does well in a poll, there is always some status quo conspiracy theorist to come along and accuse Ron Paul supporters of "spamming" or "hacking" polls, albeit without offering any evidence.

Many people who have researched this issue more than I have concluded that "spamming" polls isn't as easy as pretended.  For example: polling software will prevent a single Internet Protocol address (i.e., I.P. address, which is unique for every computer) from voting more than once.

Okay.  So it is possible to vote a plurality of times in a single poll.  Although I have never attempted to vote more than once in any poll, theoretically, I could have pulled off such a feat by voting once on my computer, and then, I suppose, drive to a friend's house to vote from their computer as well.  But so could any other candidate's supporter do the same thing.

If we are to assume that if Ron Paul does well in a poll, it must have been due to a certain percentage of spam votes, then it would only be fair to assume the same trend for all of the candidates.   Do Ron Paul supporters have super-secret poll spamming technology that nobody else knows of?  Are only Ron Paul supporters motivated enough to attempt this?

Or, what about Sean Hannity explaining away the results of FOX News' own poll by saying that Ron Paul supporters were "re-dialing" in text messages?  That one was done via cellular phone text messaging, and it was impossible to vote more than once from one cell phone.  Well, I suppose I could own more than one cell phone.  But then so could any of the other candidate's supporters.  Only Ron Paul supporters "cheat" now?  Is that it?

BTW, I only have one cellular phone, as I can barely afford to pay my only cellular phone bill.

If Ron Paul supporters are so technologically savvy, are so willing to cheat, and possess such secretive technology that seems to escape everybody else, then I must say I feel much more re-assured about the future of U.S. elections.  We should have no problem stopping Diebold from tampering with the real election results, right?

It shouldn't be so hard to believe Ron Paul could do well in polls for those who pay careful attention to the news.  Albeit, one has to look hard for the news coverage.  Ron Paul has been doing very well at straw polls.  "Spamming" a straw poll in which the person must show up and vote in the flesh would be a fairly difficult feat to pull off.

When I looked at the results of the CNBC poll which was removed, the first thought that came to my mind was that CNBC may be trying to conceal more than just another Ron Paul victory.

They Pulled The Same Stunt

with the Polls after the Democrat debate when Kucinich pulled way ahead of the pack. In fact, they tried three different polls for that one, all three of which were pulled because Kucinich lead each one.

The media knows who their Republican masters want to run and run against, and they are obiediently trying to massage their polls and their reporting to coincide with that master plan.

If Ron Paul wins ...

I'll tell you one thing, if Ron Paul wins or even comes close, it will sound the death knell of mainstream media. Their credibility would be lower than the ground. Frankly, I welcome it. For too long, too few people have had too much control over public information. The people as creators and consumers of news would be much less vulnerable to manipulation, and we'd be much more likely to get all sides of a story, not just the "story line" that the MSM advances.

CNBC Poll Less Than Scientific

Eric - I absolutely appreciate the discussion and think Ron Paul is a very viable candidate.  However as a technology expert I can say the CNBC poll was less than scientific and very unsecure.  For this particular poll they posted, it was extremely easy to 'spam' it from the comfort of someone's own home.

All that was necessary was to clear out the browser's cookies (takes about 3 seconds) and submit a new vote.  I tested it myself and was able to send in 3 votes for Dr. Paul in less than 30 seconds.

As for the theory about some polls only allowing one IP address per vote, this is true.  But I would also add most people nowadays have a technology on their computers called DHCP.  This technology dynamically assigns a new IP address each time someone connects to the Internet.  Just recycle the connection and you'd be able to vote again and again.

While I am excited about the prospects of Dr. Paul's candidacy, I think the CNBC poll only shows two things for certain:  1) there are absolutely people who are fervent about Ron Paul's campaign and 2) a strong sense of apathy exists among all the other Republican candidates.

Hopefully this can translate into higher levels of support as the campaign moves forward.

Paul wins every debate, when allowed to speak

So what? The game is rigged, its Romney or Guliani, lining up to lose to Hillary. The game goes on and the American people continue to lose.

I would love to see a Paul/Kucinich contest, if only for the wonderful debates that would ensue. But I wont see such and I will be grateful that Pauls abysmal ideas of government lack of responsibilities in the area of social programs wont see fruition.

I'm 61 years old, fear the computer even though I am stuck before the screen. I fear cyber-hacking by the government or vigilantes. Few activists know where each other live or even meet. How about showing Ron Paul Support isn't all lilly white

I wish Ron Paul Supporters and his campaign would realize the strong Ron Paul support in the El-Hispano Press.

Ron Paul’s comments may be only a tad bit more amenable than the other Republicans. All the Democrats may sound more understand of the unlicensed immigrant’s plight, but Ron Paul’s votes especially on political issues such as not imposing oligarchy of Latin America, appeal to many Hispanics. If gringos passing through Hispanic comminutes saw, here and there, Ron Paul banners and bumper stickers, they might realize that the Black and Hispanic vote doesn’t have to be owned by the Democrats. A lot of antiwar activist would love to be able to vote for someone other than a Democrat.

Many antiwar activists will in fact

vote for other than a democrat. I seriously doubt it will be Ron Paul who garners our votes though.

I live in a primarily "hispanic community" and have seen no sign of this supposed groundswell of support for Paul. Polls showed a slight decline in hispanic democratic support early on in Bush's fiasco administration but new polls show that they are back in the democratic fold.

Ardee D....Our Resident Socialist???

Ahhh.....So nice to see such a hardcore socialist like yourself Ardee D!!!

How much would like to steal from me and the rest of the U.S. citizens today??

You know...If government would get the hell out of our way we'd be a lot better off!!

Well....At least those with responsibility to take care of themselves.

Oh yeah...One more question.....At what point of does one just stop working and go on welfare, because it makes more sense to sit at home than it does for the goverment to STEAL 70% of my paycheck to give to degenerates??

Lame-Stream Media Stinks!!

I am thoughly disgusted after reading this article.  I also watched the video and saw that Ron Paul appeared to be the winner right after the debate.  I've also seen many videos of him on YouTube and it is clear Ron Paul has the guts to follow-through with his deciions.  Mr. Anderson is conveying the same 'ole, same 'ole lame-stream media crap we have been getting since its existence.  I believe the previous two elections were a farce, and that there are "powers that be" who already know who will end up in the White House.  Or are hard-trying to see to it that they succeed.  How STUPID must they think of the current Shrub "acting" as President as he really is not the one running things and cannot put two sentences together if they aren't written down for him by somebody else.

I live just outside the D.C. beltway and have been thrilled to see grass-roots groups lobbying for Ron Paul all over the U.S.  In small towns and large, the American people I hope are WAKING UP!  I really don't belong to any political party as I have not thought the process fair (or legal) for quite some time.  I have become so cynical with regard to the biased and untruthful reporting that has been going on, and for years!  I would like to be able to muster a small glimmer of hope that enough Americans can get it together and come out in droves between now and the election (especially those serving in the military who are rooting for Ron Paul) and say boo hoo to the political pundits (who have it all wrong anyway).

And for the first time since JFK, put somebody in the White House who deserves to be there.  Ron Paul will work for us, bring our troops home, get rid of the Federal Reserve which happens to be privately owned by the big banks, get rid of income tax which is illegal anyway, and restore our rights that the Constution has given us.

And lets make sure we also get rid of all the Greedtards up on Capital Hill who forgot who they work for and pray we can get a non-politician like Ron Paul in the WH who has the guts to stand up to them all and trust his judgment that he will do what he says he will and bring this Country back to where it's supposed to be.  Let's us also pray for him in his travels as there are boogymen out there.  And I am not kidding.
