Having lectured in New Zealand with Abby Cormack, I also visited Food Standards.  They admit they rely on our FDA and have done no studies.  Our FDA was who revoked the petition for approval and tried to have the manufacturer, Searle, indicted for fraud. 

Unfortunately, the defense team hired  the US prosecutors.  Don Rumsfeld was CEO and said he would call in his markers and get it on the market.  He was on President Reagan transition team and the day after Reagan took office he appointed Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes to get aspartame approved.  Knowing it would take 30 days to get him there he wrote an executive order making the FDA powerless to do anything about aspartame until he got there.  In the meantime Searle sued the FDA which didn't get approval either. 

Jere Goyan was FDA Commissioner and was called at 3:00 AM and fired.  Rumsfeld knew he would not over-rule the Board of Inquiry.  Hayes did precisely that, putting this deadly addictive excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug on the market causing mass poisoning of the American public and more than 100 countries of the world.

What needs to be done is a repeat of the Trocho Study in Barcelona which showed the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol embalms living tissue and damages DNA.  Here is that study:   http://www.mpwhi.com/formaldehyde_from_aspartame.pdf

The big problem in New Zealand is the New Zealand Food Safety Authority which ought to be called Ajinomoto's New Zealand office.  They ignore and disregard  independent scientific peer reviewed research and accept industry's studies in defense of their poison. 

They stoop to using the most outrageous propaganda such as more methanol in fruit than in aspartame knowing full well in fruits and vegetables methanol binds to pectin, and there is also ethanol which is the classic antidote to methano toxicity.  No ethanol in aspartame.  It doesn't matter how many times you correct them and send them back to Chemistry 101; they continue to stumble the public. 

They refused to meet with me when I was there even though I was at their door and had all the damning information.  That was what they didn't want, the scientific peer reviewed research and government records that show aspartame is a poison.  They also refused Dr. Woodrow Monte who wrote the peer reviewed journal article, Aspasrtame: Methanol and the Public Health, as well as Dr. Ralph Walton, who did a study on aspartame on humans.  It had to be stopped with severe reactions showing if you do an honest study a poison will always prove to be a poison.
