Congress: Bottleneck to impeachment

Bush and Cheney would have been impeached long ago if Congress was carrying out the will of We the People, especially since last November. By taking impeachment "off the table", Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic power structure are abetting the formation of dictatorship and the shredding of the Constitution.

Why is this happening? The answer can be summed up in two words: "Corporate Personhood". Ever since the late 19th century, clever corporate lawyers have been gaining the rights and privileges of persons for the the fictitious persons that are corporations. Since the only legal job of corporate officers is to make money for stockholders, they have used corporate personhood to influence and buy politicians, especially legislators, so as to get contracts, tax breaks, laws that benefit corporations rather than human beings, and thereby increase profits.

This process is now so far advanced that the corporations, especially the military/oil/nuclear/aerospace corporations essentially control the Representatives of We the People. Elections are won by media coverage, by and large, which takes lots of money, which corporations have and We the People do not. Then there are the corporate-controlled voting machines, which have corrupted the democratic process.

To add icing on the cake, the DLC and the DNC made sure that people’s candidates- the 23 Progressive Democrats who challenged incumbents in the ’06 primaries- were ouspent, smeared, defeated. Only one, McNerny, made it to Congress, and he had to renounce impeachment.

Not only that, Abramoff and the K Street boys were adept at bribing and blackmailing members of Congress. Bribery of course, sets one up for blackmail, as does a junket to Las Vegas with chorus girls- reportedly 100 or so Congressmen fell into that trap. So they don’t dare impeach, lest their own sins be publicized.

Then there are the terrorist threats against Congresspeople. We don’t know about these, except they are in keeping with the Mafia mentality of the Bush people. We do know, and everyone in Congress knows, that two Senators, Carnahan and Wellstone, died mysteriously two weeks before crucial election races. We do know that the Senate office buildings were shut down for months following 9-11 by anthrax coming from Ft. Detrick, and no investigation was done.

In any case, the 110th Congress is just as complicit with Bush as was the Republican – controlled 109th. What to do?

Our only legal, peaceful recourse is to replace every member of Congress who won’t sign on to impeachment. Cindy Sheehan asked John Conyers, Head of Judiciary, how to get impeachment on the table and that was his response- threaten our jobs. She decided to do just that, and has announced she is running against Pelosi as an independent.

I’m challenging Rep. Mike Thompson, in California District 1, running on the Green ticket. People should do this in every Congressional district, unless the Rep. has signed onto H Res 333, to impeach Cheney.

We need to start now, as mounting a people’s campaign, whether as a Green, an independent, or something else, requires lots of organization and people power. This effort can provide a legitimate, viable channel for the people’s anger and frustration with Bush and the Congressional bottleneck to impeachment. It can succeed.

I call it the New Broom strategy, for a clean sweep of Congress.

As a corollary, we should withdraw attention from the media circus around the presidential election. It’s already clear that a warmonger will win, and continue to consolidate power in the Executive branch.

Congress is intended by the US Constitution, to be to be the body that makes laws on behalf of We the People, and the Executive is inteneded subordinate, supposed to carry out the laws. This balance can only be restored if those elected to Congress represent We the People, rather than the corporations.

Let's unplug the Congressional bottleneck, with a New Broom strategy.

GOP plan to steal CA electoral votes

A right-wing law firm is working with the GOP to steal the 2008 election by destroying California's winner-take-all system of electoral votes. Instead the electoral votes would be divided per results in each congressional district. Estimates are that this would give the GOP presidential ticket at least 20 electoral votes because of safe GOP districts that it wouldn't get under the rules in any other state. Speculation is that if the Republicans have this advantage in a state that normally goes Democratic, the Democrats cannot win the White House.

Ya think maybe this was Rove's idea?
