Tell A Friend

January 24, 2008

The complicit corporate media were dragged, kicking and screaming into our reality this week after an independent study revealed an orchestrated campaign by the Bush administration to lie this country into the Iraq War. Those of us who have been part of the alternative media of course have been painfully aware of these facts for several years now but it was nice to see this week the study released jointly by the Center for Public Integrity and the Fund for Independence in Journalism.

The study analyzed administration statements, regardless of venue over the two year period leading up to the Iraq War. It has long been reported by the alternative media that this was the selling period, where Bush and his cronies would spend every chance they could telling us how dangerous Saddam Hussein was to us. They would tell us about weapons of mass destruction and when that didn’t work, they tried to scare the people with visages of mushroom clouds. They told us it would cost us nothing, in fact that eventually Iraqi oil profits would pay for everything! Greeted as liberators, really! Six months, tops, swear! Almost six years later, what we find is a report that reveals that the administration lied a total of 935 times during this two year period. That means a day did not go by, when they did not lie about the impending Iraq War.

The two greatest lies were that Iraq had WMD and had ties to al Qaeda. These accounted for 532 of the lies. Bush led the campaign of lies, checking in with 259 outright lies to the American people. The once revered Colin Powell, now a neocon puppet in history, came in a close second with 244 outright lies to the American people. Who can forget the lie-fest Powell presented to the United Nations? In summarizing this report, the Fund for Independence in Journalism said yesterday, “In short, the Bush Administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information, methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003.” Basically this means that our president methodically lied to this country to start a war.

The response from the administration is staggering in its infantilism. White House spokesman, Scott Stanzel played revisionist historian by saying that “the actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world.” Even if this were true, which it is not, what difference does it make? Is Stanzel saying that Bush abdicates his responsibility as Commander and Chief based on what other people say in the intelligence communities? The recent NIE on Iran would suggest otherwise. That document outlines that Iran is not a threat, nor seeking a nuclear weapons program. Yet despite the “collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world”, Bush has virtually dismissed this NIE and does not agree with its findings. This really cuts to the heart of the issue. Bush cherry picks the intelligence he wants to fit his desires. There were plenty of dissenting opinions on Iraq in 2003, including the people who were inspecting the country at the time Bush threw them out of Iraq to blow it up. The weapons inspectors new the cooked intelligence against Iraq was false. So did the United Nations. So did Joe Wilson. In fact, outside of the hand picked intelligence from the secret Office of Special Plans (OSP) in the Pentagon, most knew that Saddam did not have as much as a stockpile of slingshots. The OSP was in fact a hand-picked group of neocons such as Douglas Feith whose job it was to find something, anything that could be spun as actionable; thus justifying the desired action of war.

Despite the junior high school defense of “everyone else thought so too”. Stanzel cannot escape the fact that it was the decision of George W. Bush to act on this cherry picked intelligence. It was not the cake walk or slam dunk though that they told us it would be. I have heard this war described as a war of choice but I say it was far worse. It was a war of pre-meditation. Those who have left the administration, such is Richard Clark; tell a story of a president who intended to invade Iraq from the moment he took the oath he so casually discarded. The tragic events of 9-11 only provided the window dressing he needed to sell it to the American people.

And sell it he did. We heard wild stories of rape rooms never to be found. We were regaled with stories of chemical weapons and mobile weapons labs never existing in the first place. We were told tall tales of all sorts of weapons of mass destruction that the madman we put in power was just ready to unleash upon the American people. We were introduced to terms like “dirty bomb” and “suitcase nukes.” When they felt the American people were sufficiently softened up, they brought out the big guns. The specter of nuclear Armageddon was raised over and over again. False links to al Qaeda were concocted, despite the fact that Osama bin Laden hated Saddam Hussein’s secular Iraq. The corporate media became the pushers for the administration. They would do special after special about the impending doom, selling you the war as they would a tube of toothpaste. Their complicity is frankly still understated. They barely put up a defense. They didn’t ask any questions. The administration fed them lie after lie and they just lapped up and regurgitated it to the masses. The blood of the innocents now stains their hands as well.

That is because there was a price to pay for this enormous bill of lies. That price has been paid in blood and money. Nearly 4,000 Americans have paid the ultimate price for this pack of lies. These were kids who had a future until George Bush lied them to death. Tens of thousands are injured severely; their lives forever marred by this vicious pack of lies. That does not take into consideration the dead Iraqis, which could total over 100,000 more innocent people killed. This little cake walk has cost the American tax payer to date, $488,453,101,383. This all being paid while our bridges collapse around us and our education system is in shambles. The obscenity is overwhelming. The land of the free and the home of the brave has become the land of the lies and the home of the politically expedient.

The complicit corporate media is silent. They are silent because they are as culpable as the administration. If someone makes a mistake, you can always overlook it. This was no mistake. You do not make the same mistake 935 times in a two-year period and still have a shred of credibility left. Either it was an orchestrated campaign, as this study concludes, or George W. Bush is the stupidest president in history. Quite frankly, both are likely to be true. You do not get to shrug it off though, as if the blood of the thousands killed for these lies is irrelevant.

This should be a watershed moment in our history. Impeachment should only be the beginning but the democrats have sold out their country for the continuation of the two-party stranglehold on the American democracy. Both sides present candidates that cannot even guarantee ending this illegal war, now confirmed to have been based on a concerted effort to lie to the American people. John McCain says we should stay in Iraq for 100 years. Mike Huckabee says Iran will see the “gates of hell” if their little speed boats get to close to one of our destroyers. Hillary cannot tell us when the troops could come home. Obama reflects generously on Ronald Reagan, a fatally flawed president who committed crimes against this country and started the ruination of our economy that still continues to this day. The Fred Thompson sideshow thankfully ended but Giuliani would probably blow up what is left of the world should he somehow revive his floundering campaign and win. The only two candidates left who speak about ending this debacle, Ron Paul and John Edwards, are marginalized by the complicit corporate media, covered in the blood they have helped to shed.

George Bush is fond of saying that history will judge him. His administration will go down as one of the worst in history, of that we can be assured. But how will history judge us; as we stand by and watch events as if they are part of a reality TV show? When will enough be enough to break through the morass we find ourselves in latter day America? Where the media is bought and owned and acts as the pimp; prostituting the orchestrated lies of the government, which results in the deaths of so many innocent people. It was confirmed this week that George Bush lied 4000 of our kids to death. The excuses are vacuous and equally untrue and do nothing to remove the stain of blood on the pages of this history, which we are witness to right now.

Couldnt agree more if I tried

---------

History will show that Bush was but a blip in the over all picture but make no mistake he is the worst president EVER. For the first time in our history we invaded a country and took it over. "Pre-emptive war was an invention of hitler." D. Eisenhower And he stole our rights "People who give up liberty for security will lose both." B. Franklin

The two parties are one in the same. Nobody. I repeat NOBODY is going to change a thing other than Ron Paul.

Since you highlight the war effort on the side of the media and Bush administration, let me comments on our rights.

Our rights are the foundation that makes America strong and great. Individual rights cannot be taken by the government. They are God given, as the Declaration of Independence tells us. The simple fact that Congress voted to strip our rights means they have no idea or accept their action is excusable.

We cannot begin to fix our problems until we have a leader that understands they are not better than our founding fathers. The American idea is brand new. Tyranny is ancient. We have given up the rights that make us free. I dont know what to call it... BUT IT SURE AS HELL ISNT AMERICAN.

Let me see if I can get this right:
We need to borrow 10 billion dollars from China.
And then we give it to Musharraf,
who's a military dictator
who overthrew an elected government.
Then we go to war,
we lose all these lives,
promoting democracy
...in Iraq.
What's going on here?"

Ron Paul

Id also like to add. The shady motherf*ckers that started two wars. Gave 10B to a dictator and didnt get the motherf*cker that hit our country.

There are three things that people need to think about when they are voting this year.

Economy- Moneytary policy. 'If the American people understood monetary policy, there would be a revolution tomorrow.' Henry Ford

Gravel said it best in the debates, "Follow the money." He's right. We need to get rid of the Fed. Their power is absolute in America. They finane it all!!! You dont think they get what they pay for?

War- Is the war worth causing WWIII because we will drop a nuke on Iran? Is it worth going bankrupt?

Rights- If the economy tanks and our rights are gone. All hell is going to break loose.

Those are the threats our country faces. Real threats. Not whether or not the government will give you crappy healthcare.

Listen to Ron Paul and save this country from disaster. Nobody. None of them have a plan. Ron Paul loves this country. He's voted in the peoples favor HIS ENTIRE LIFE. The man has never NEVER been bought. Think about that for a minute. Never takes a dollar from anyone other than a citizen. Never votes for a bill unless it benefits freedom and America. Studied economy for 30 years.. understands the markets better than the rest.

I feel like smacking people in the head. Its a fkn no brainer to me. This is a once in a lifetime candidate. The only thing he could do as president is bring our troops home. BUT he could introduce his legislation to the Congress and force THEM TO VOTE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Literally, he could change Congress over night. Why? Because the President could explain his issues in great detail to the people. If Congress wouldnt pass a bill it would expose who the corrupt folks are. Or at least the ones that think we need to give up liberty for security. "We were warned against that. Dont we remember that when you give up liberty for security, you lose both." Ron Paul

"As long as we live beyond our means we are destined to live beneath our means." Ron Paul

Finally, I want to know what people are scared of with Ron Paul? Whats the big monster that wants to hurt us? Is he not speaking truth to power? Does he not have a voting record that shows us the truth? Did he not serve his country? Does he not get the most support from our kids DYING in Iraq? This isnt American Idol we are voting for. We are voting for the future or our country.

"We have to wake up and come to our senses." Ron Paul

Excellent Points

I think the power structure has smeared Dr. Paul and some of the dung has stuck with the general population. What is encouraging, is that everyone who is anti-Paul, has no viable alternative to offer. I just hope his message keeps getting out.

Although should he truly compete on the national stage, i would fear for his life.

Thanks,.

Yes.

Bush Lied,

Thousands Died,

The People defied,

For treason they should be tried...

Unfortunbatelky, the Republic has died...

Never in the history of this country has one administration so defied the people, the Congress, the Courts and the Constitution. The mass media are wholly complicit in this criminal coverup of corrupt and treasonous activity. The fact is, so many people in the Media/Military/Pharmaceutical/Industrial- complex participated in this wholesale Rape Of The Nation, that sorting out who is responsible, culpable and ultimately triable for all the  reprehensible activity that this administration has not only condoned but initiated and encouraged is both easily pointed out and at the same time an incredibly monumentous task because of the sheer breadth of the problem.

The blame does not lie, however, solely in 'Republican' or Democratic' realms of responsibility. Those artificial distinctions merely serve to obscure how widespread and deep this cancerous growth on the face of the Republic really is. It is not a matter of ideology or political party, but a matter of greed, personal ambition and a patronage and lobbyist-drive system run amok. In American politics today, there is no ideological currency- only filthy lucre. Those who oppose the inbred corruptness of the system are either bought off and corrupted themselves, or else ostracised and falsely accused of any number of ridiculous and serious charges from any number of fatuous and wholly illegitmate areas of slander.

Look at the way a man such as Ron Paul is treated. Here is a man, even if you disagree with his philosophy, you cannot legitimately assail his character, morals or record. When in the history of politics has a 10-term congressman running for president been subjected to such an obvious campaign of slander, censorship and outright unjustifiable vilification. His crime? Opposing the unjust war that is being used as a vehicle to pillage and rape the American taxpayer and to run roughshod over the Constitution in a naked power grab.

If what is going on in America today would be occuring in ANY other country in the world, our corporate controlled media would be calling it a 'coup-by-proxy', and would probably be calling for a (very profitable!) invasion! Sadly, even those who have awakened to the de-facto overthrow of the Republic are now called 'conspiracy nuts', 'fringe' and 'kooks'. This despite the fact that by any measure of polling, their positions, thoughts and ideals are held by a majority of the American public! When in history has an entire population been labeled 'fringe'?

George Orwell has met Herman Goebbels, and their bastard child is 21st Century America. Soon, we will all have our 'Real I.D.', which is nothing more than a high-tech version of the Nazi's 'Internal Passport'. Today, people are fined, jailed and excoriated in the press for what as little as 20 years ago would be termed 'Peaceful Protest', and a valid exercise of their 1st Amendment Rights! College Campuses resemble more the re-education camps of Communist China than the citadels of free thought they once were. And The IRS has become the modern-day equivalent of the medieval Tax Collector, who would drag you out of your hovel and beat you if you didn't give the King 'His Share'. Only today, they use unconstitutional and extra-constitutional  seizure and frofeitrure laws to enforce their draconian version of the modern feudal state, justified by an extra-constitutional courts system that is neither fair, nor follows the rule of Constitutional Law!

In the eyes of the corproate elite, we are but mere serfs, tied to the land by an outrageous and obtuse system of  taxation. We are wage-slaves, who work nearly half of our year in order to just pay our 'tithe' of taxes to the 'Emperor' in Washington D.C. Small businesses, individuals and the entire middle class (what's left of it) are crushed under the weight of the tilted system that not only favors Large Corporations, but allows them to run roughshod over the entire economy, as the totally bought-and-paid-for government overseers pick and choose economic winners and losers based upon how much 'bribes' in the form of lobbyist 'campaign contributions' and God knows what else is heaped upon our thoroughly corrupted legislators. Entire industries and whole classes of employment have been exported overseas, wher once good-paying American Jobs are now performed by the figurative (and sometimes literal) equivalent of slave laborers.  This not only destroys the American economy and standard of living, but allows the corproate elite to exploit foreign workers as well- all in the name of 'efficiency' and 'shareholder value'

When this system is challenged Constitutionally in court, the result is that the Judges who are beholden not to interpretation of the Constitution, but to the patronage system that appointed them to their position of power, or the same lobbyist=driven money machine that sees to their continual re-election.

No wonder we get a thoroughly corrupt and criminal Presidential Administration- it is merely an inevitable product of the broken system that has usurped the Republic in a bloodless coup.

God Bless America? God help America....

no prob.. excellent article

Forwarded it to xtrabiggg.. figured he could drop some common sense on here too.

Free market is going to rule eventually. We are on a learning curve.

If the markets fail before the election.. Ron Paul will win hands down. Only then, will Americans.. Realize. That. We. Cant. Sustain. This. Empire.

Its about the economy stupid. We are broke. We need to put our house in order. We need someone that wants checks and balances. Freeze spending. WE MUST CUT BACK. You can have the war.. or you can have free healthcare.. or you can have Social Security money. You can have ONE. All three will destroy us.

We must correct our problems at the root or we are doomed. There is a reason why there are checks and balances. Once you ignore that, its doomed for failure. Imagine a 1000 16 yr. olds in charge of 3T because thats what you get when you quit following the rules.

On R Paul

His is the only way to save America

there is no other alternative

if there were, the others would be shouting it at the tops of their lungs

I advise every american to google CHalmers Johnson on google Video

hear  what that wise  man has to say

Ron Paul is dong  what that wise old scholar  is saying what has to be done

Basically America has to  abandon the  Industrial war  complex it has become your  back bone Industry  because it  has taken all the  best people from

 the private sector

as such you will invent enemies from now until the end of time

you are  offering your youth's lives to keep your economy afloat

when the economy  gets shaken  through the corruption of the FED

you will have another 911

you will bury your dead and  do it again time after time

or you will turn on yourselves

those that do not have the brass to take the   Ron Paul road this  election will live to hate themselves later

or continue through life in a bubble of madness

I am a retired opera singer. I was a leading soprano with the New York City Opera for ten years. I am a strong supporter of Dennis Kucinich and worked for his campaign in 2004. I believe that he is the ONLY honest man in congress. He has been working against this insane war since before it began. I am 72 years old and I have been so frustrated with the media, the Congress and the American people that they don't tell the truth.

Now it's too late to listen to Dennis Kucinich.

Don't talk to me about Ron Paul. He is a fraud. The only honest man in Congress is Dennis Kucinich. Now that the MSM and corporate America have sqeezed him out, it's too late for him to save us. He alone had the truth on his side. He alone took the correct positions on everything - health care, the war, impeachment, NAFTA, WTO, etc.

Why didn't the people listen? Because the noise of the MSM deafened them. They cut Dennis off before he ever had the chance to say what should have been said. People who got the chance to see and hear Dennis in person when he had the time and opportunity to say what needed to be said, those people got him and adored him. I was one of those people.

It's too late to educate the American public even if they could be educated. They have succombed to the gossip about Britney Spears and her ilk. Shame on America.  If I weren't 73 years old, I would leave this corrupt country and live in Europe or Canada. But I'm stuck here without Dennis Kucinich. I will mourn his loss forever.
