Last nights primary returns has set the stage for a battle for the Democratic party's soul . It will be Hillary Clinton's negative politics of fear versus Barack Obama's politics of hope in a fight to the finish. Unfortunately, it well could split the Democratic party in half and leave it extremely vulnerable to a Republican victory in November: Allen L Roland
Even though Hillary Clinton won Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island ~ she still trails by approximately 100 in the pledged delegate count with even more super delegates about to announce for Obama.
But, as Bob Herbert writes in the New York Times, " If Hillary Clinton wins both Texas and Ohio, the Democrats will need a trainload of aspirin and a shrink. "
We don't need a shrink ~ the future of the Democrat party is not with the Clintons but most assuredly is with Barack Obama. But the Clintons are not about to give up their quest for more power ~ even if it results in hurting the Democrat party.
Let me give you an excellent example ~ as reported by the Progressive Review.
CLINTON RATES MCCAIN OVER OBAMA

CBS ~ Hillary Clinton told reporters that both she and the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain offer the experience to be ready to tackle any crisis facing the country under their watch, but Barack Obama simply offers more rhetoric. "I think you'll be able to imagine many things Senator McCain will be able to say," she said. " He's never been the president, but he will put forth his lifetime of experience."
In other words, Hillary Clinton is ready to disqualify Barack Obama by comparing her ' so-called ' experience with John McCains in being ready to tackle any crisis facing the country ~ knowing full well that the Republicans will use this in November if Obama is the Democratic candidate.
This is blatant fearmongering and obviously for only one purpose ~ to nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton ~ even at the expense of party unity.
For example ~ New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, once a rival for the nomination, warned in a television interview Sunday that the negativity between Clinton and Obama "could be campaign fodder for Republicans in the fall."
He cited the Clinton ad in which a narrator warned of a crisis unfolding in "a dangerous world" at 3 a.m. and asked, "Who do you want answering the phone?"
Richardson said he was concerned that as the campaign continues to unfold in the seven weeks leading to the Pennsylvania primary, "that this continues, this negativity, personal attacks. . . . Those are not helpful ads."
The soul of the Democratic party is the people's will and 75% of the people do not believe in Bush's illegal war and occupation of Iraq ~ whereas John McCain and Hillary Clinton both voted for it.
Barack Obama spoke out and continues to speak out against the war so we are left with a Democratic party which must have the courage to not only oppose Bush's illegal war and occupation of Iraq but end it soon ~ to fully restore its soul and its mandate with the American people.
It was Bush's politics of fear mongering that swayed Congress, including Hillary, to approve Bush's war ~ and Hillary Clinton is selfishly resorting to those same fear tactics in attempting to win the Democratic nomination.
Only the ignorant and non educated respond to this tactic ~ which is increasingly being seen as a growing part of Hillary Clinton's base. That along with cross over Republicans who do not want to face Obama in the fall.
The Clintons, like the Bushes, care only about themselves as witness the deteriorating of the Party during the Clinton presidency where the party lost 12 Governorships, 7 Senators, 46 Representatives as well as their progressive base ~ as Bill Clinton triangulated the soul out of the Democratic party.
The establishment, as represented by the Clintons and Bushes, has a vested interest in the continuence of Bush's costly occupation of Iraq whereas the people, as represented by Barack Obama, have a vested interest in ending this illegal occupation and cooperating with the world.
Last night's primary returns has set the stage for a battle for the Democratic party's soul . It will be Hillary Clinton's negative politics of fear versus Barack Obama's politics of hope in a fight to the finish.
