General Petraeus's mid September White House drafted report will not only claim progress where there is little but, more importantly, will blame Iran for any roadblocks ~ thus setting the stage for a massive air strike against Iran before the end of the year, if not the month: Allen L Roland It's deja vu all over again except this time it's not Colin Powell giving his long awaited list of justified fabrications to the U.N. inorder to rationalize an illegal preemptive attack on the sovereign nation of Iraq ~ No, this time its General David Petraeus giving his long awaited list of justified fabrications on Bush's Surge to the United States Congress inorder to continue an illegal occupation as well as rationalize a preemptive attack on the sovereign nation of Iran. Bush's sudden visit today to Iraq is a public relations distraction by the head cheerleader of Cheney's masterplan, Bush, to mask the fact that the British are beginning their pullout from Basra today. British forces withdraw from Basra Palace base 03 Sep 2007 British troops began pulling out of Basra Palace last night and expect to hand control of the base to Iraqi forces within days, amid new Anglo-American recriminations about the aftermath of the Iraq war. The main purpose of Patreaus's White House drafted report is to blame Iran for any roadblocks towards success in Iraq ~ thus setting the stage for a massive air strike against Iran before the end of the year, if not the month. Paul Krugman calls it A Snowjob In The Desert; " But, say the usual suspects, General Petraeus is a fine, upstanding officer who wouldn’t participate in a campaign of deception - apparently forgetting that they said the same thing about Mr. Powell. First of all, General Petraeus is now identified with the surge; if it fails, he fails. He has every incentive to find a way to keep it going, in the hope that somehow he can pull off something he can call success. " Petraeus's report is another White House scam, folks and the Iran war drums are getting louder as we speak. Fortunately Dan Froomkin, Washington Post, also sees it for what it really is " a White House con job in the making ." Allen L Roland http://blogs.salon.com/0002255/2007/09/03.html Whose Report Is It, Anyway? By Dan Froomkin Dan Froomkin - Whose Report Is It, Anyway? - washingtonpost.com The "Petraeus Report" -- the supposedly trustworthy mid-September reckoning of military and political progress in Iraq by Army Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker -- is instead looking more like a White House con job in the making. The Bush administration has been trying for months to restore its credibility on Iraq (as well as stall for time) by focusing on Petraeus -- President Bush's "main man" in Iraq -- and his report to Congress. But now it turns out it that White House aides will actually write the "Petraeus Report," not the general himself. And although Petraeus has a long history of literally and figuratively playing the good soldier for Bush, it appears that the president still doesn't trust him enough to stay on message under the congressional klieg lights. Julian E. Barnes and Peter Spiegel wrote in yesterday's Los Angeles Times: "Despite Bush's repeated statements that the report will reflect evaluations by Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, administration officials said it would actually be written by the White House, with inputs from officials throughout the government."
