APOTHEOSIS

Easter
from the Vernal Equinox.
Christmas
from Winter Solstice.

The original holy days
seem lost,
devolved to holidays
when usurped
by Crescent, Star and Cross
of Abraham's sons.

Though they were born
of the Earth
men set out
to set themselves apart,
unable to abide being
only one small part
of a miraculous
WHOLE.

They remmembered
their own mothers'
awe-full omniscience
and with adolescent hubris
insisted
they could cut the cord
connecting them
to the natural world.

Mis-using the strength
they'd been given
to protect and shepherd
they proclaimed dominion
over all of Earth's
intrinsic systems
and designated themselves
the Crown of Creation.

These once noble
Knights of Nature
soon degenerated
as they turned to venerating
an anthropomorphic "lord"
of their own making
who was but a
violent
vengeful
version
of
themselves.

They comandeered
the head of the table
claiming it was ordained
by the deity of their fable
and seeing no difference
between
the Good Shepherd
and
the Terminator
began to rape,
taking things
Earth freely gave them,
destroying the very intricacy
that sustained them
by having their piece of cake
and eating everyone else's,
too.
