List of Blue Dog Saboteurs

From a source close to the House Democratic caucus, here's a list of Blue Dogs that don't want to vote for this bill because it has a certain date for withdrawal.

Michael Arcuri (NY-24)
John Barrow (GA-12)
Melissa Bean (IL-08)
Dan Boren (OK-02)
Jim Cooper (TN-05)
Bud Cramer (AL-02)
Brad Ellsworth (IN-08)
Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-20)
Baron Hill (IN-09)
Tim Mahoney (FL-16)
Jim Marshall (GA-08)
Mike McIntyre (NC-07)
Collin Peterson (MN-07)
John Salazar (CO-03)
Joe Sestak (PA-07)
Heath Shuler (NC-11)
Gene Taylor (MS-04)

It's sad to see some freshmen we supported on the list. Joe Sestak, Kirsten Gillibrand and Michael Arcuri had some online support from the progressive netroots. Tim Mahoney, Heath Shuler, Brad Ellsworth, and Baron Hill were mostly to nearly all Rahm recruits.

These people are the Democrats that held Pelosi and the progressive hostage on the language for a firm withdrawal. They are keeping the war going. They need to be brought over.

UPDATE: Sestak isn't a Blue Dog, and I'm told that Kirsten Gillibrand just wants to see the bill first. Mmmkay. Color me skeptical. A simple public statement would do wonders.

UPDATE AGAIN: Kirsten Gillibrand has publicly stated she will vote for the supplemental.

Blue Dog Supplemental Saboteur List, Updated
Once again, here's the list of the Blue Dogs (plus Sestak) who are against the supplemental because of the conditions it imposes. I removed Kirsten Gillibrand, because she signaled she'd vote for the bill after internal deliberations and public pressure from her supporters.

Here's the list, with three new members (Lincoln Davis (TN-04), Joe Donnelly (IN-02), and Bob Ethridge (NC-02)). Lots of Indiana reps on the list, which is nice because it's Evan Bayh whose wavering in the Senate (along with the Nelsons, of course).

Michael Arcuri (NY-24)
John Barrow (GA-12)
Melissa Bean (IL-08)
Dan Boren (OK-02)
Jim Cooper (TN-05)
Bud Cramer (AL-02)
Lincoln Davis (TN-04)
Joe Donnelly (IN-02)
Brad Ellsworth (IN-08)
Bob Ethridge (NC-02)
Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-20)
Baron Hill (IN-09)
Tim Mahoney (FL-16)
Jim Marshall (GA-08)
Mike McIntyre (NC-07)
Collin Peterson (MN-07)
John Salazar (CO-03)
Joe Sestak (PA-07)
Heath Shuler (NC-11)
Gene Taylor (MS-04)

The Influence Peddler has a good post on the vote count. Jim Moran is against the bill because it doesn't restrict action against Iran and nine liberals have said they are against it. That means that Democrats have little room on this bill, five votes to give unless they can bring over a few Republicans. There are nineteen people on this list.

The leadership isn't there yet with this bill, and if they move to the right they will and should lose progressives (an analysis of the bill is here, and you can see that it's only barely tolerable). It's time for outside groups to put pressure on these Blue Dogs.

UPDATE: I'm putting Gillibrand back on the list, because apparently activists aren't getting a straight answer from her and her office is referring people to this post and the one on the Albany Project. I'll call her office tomorrow for a straight answer.

Blue Dogs - war profiteers??

Hi Rob,

Is anyone doing any investigations into why our elected officials want to prolong the war? War profiteering comes to mind.

Regards,

Aimee

Support our troops. Bring them home. Stop funding the war machine. $8 billion per month for what?

"National Security"

Gotta get that oil bill through the Iraqi Parliament for the oil companies before they will consider leaving.

War Funding Update - March 13, 2007 1pm

http://kucinich.us/node/3597

I have just come from a Democratic Caucus meeting, where I raised this issue:

Democrats are pushing President Bush’s benchmarks in the supplemental as milestones which must be reached by a certain time. One of the first milestones or benchmarks involves the privatization of Iraqi oil, in the form of passage of a so-called Hydrocarbon law.

Democrats are now in a position of legitimatizing the very reason why George Bush took the US to war against Iraq. To grab the oil.

Call your Member of Congress now and tell them to not permit the war funding bill to become the vehicle for the privatization of Iraq’s oil.

Why continue the war?

The most powerful lobbying group in the country is AIPAC, the Pro Israel lobby.  And it's their money and not the constitution to which our Congress people are loyal.  Any damage to an Arab country is good news for Israel, or so they believe.  See:  http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_mark_a___070313_how_bush_is_getting_.htm
