You're not safe even in church anymore.  The guns-for-Jesus crowd will come shoot you whenever the evil spirit moves them, right in front of your wife, kids, and fellow parishioners.

Today's Washington Post reports...

George R. Tiller, the nation's most prominent provider of controversial late-term abortions, was shot and killed yesterday in the lobby of his Lutheran church in Wichita, where he was serving as an usher. Tiller's family members said through their attorney: "Today we mourn the loss of our husband, father and grandfather. Today's event is an unspeakable tragedy for all of us and for George's friends and patients. This is particularly heart wrenching because George was shot down in his house of worship, a place of peace."
Tiller has been a target of the fetus-fanatics for years, and was shot in both arms back in 1993 by abortion protester Rachelle "Shelley" Shannon, who remains in prison for the crime.  Tiller wouldn't give interviews because he feared for his life and his family.  Obviously with good reason.

Dr. Tiller ran the Women's Health Care Services clinic in Wichita, Kansas, and certainly provided much-needed health care to all his female patients, whether pre-natal care, breast exams, wellness visits . . . not just abortions.

Tiller's family also stated that its loss "is also a loss for the city of Wichita and women across America.  George dedicated his life to providing women with high-quality health care despite frequent threats and violence."  But that was immaterial to the extremists who just wanted him dead.
The rabid-right anti-abortion murderers always confuse me.  They have no problem ending an adult life, and ruining the lives of the friends and family of the victim, because of their maniacal obsession to protect the fetus.  Doesn't matter what happens once the tyke is born, mind you.  If the Mom dies in childbirth and the babe is an orphan, so what?

Most of these Neo-con criminals also support an extreme right-wing political agenda that includes cutting funding for practically every social program that benefits children and families, from Head Start to school lunch to subsidized health insurance programs, and on and on.  They love the blastocyst, couldn't give a flip about the actual baby.

This is the same crowd that wants to turn every embryo frozen in a test-tube  -- viable or not -- into some kind of "snowflake baby" rather than have the stem cells used to promote scientific discoveries that could potentially save thousands, perhaps tens-of-thousands of lives.  Funny, I never see the line-up of Good Christian Women eager to get implanted in some kind of "save the snowflake" campaign.

And I wonder how guilty Bill O'Reilly feels about this murder?  Bill-O used Tiller as a frequent target of his hate-filled screeds.   Gabrial Winant writing for Salon.com put it this way...
Tiller's name first appeared on "The Factor" on Feb. 25, 2005. Since then, O'Reilly and his guest hosts have brought up the doctor on 28 more episodes, including as recently as April 27 of this year. Almost invariably, Tiller is described as "Tiller the Baby Killer" who "destroys fetuses for just about any reason right up until the birth date for $5,000."  He's guilty of "Nazi stuff," said O'Reilly on June 8, 2005; a moral equivalent to NAMBLA and al-Qaida, he suggested on March 15, 2006.  "This is the kind of stuff happened in Mao's China, Hitler's Germany, Stalin's Soviet Union," said O'Reilly on Nov. 9, 2006.
Could Tiller's killer have been an O'Reilly fan?  Seems plausible. There's been a serious up-tick in gun violence and assault from right-wingers against those they perceive as "the enemy."  The combination of liberal-hating, gun-toting, Fox-News' watching, Limbaugh-listening maniacs soaked with O'Reilly-induced images of a "murderer on the loose" is too much for the Kool-Aid drinkers to take.  They just pull out their weapons and fire away.   Churches seem a favorite target of their misguided, murderous wrath.

O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and the others who inspire violence should come with warning labels -- "Warning, This Program May Cause You to Go Insane and Shoot Innocent People."

Seriously.

Kathy never expected a career in radio as a talk show producer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy was completing her nursing degree when in 2001 - in an emergency - she was asked to fill in as the producer of Mike's program. Within a few (more...)
