Ron Paul has some 'right on' stances -- the wars, drug policy. But his Randian take on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, environmental regulation, banking controls, unemployment insurance, child labor laws and unions are ALL either unconstitutional or just "not good for business." That only unfettered free-market capitalism (Milton Friedman Economics) will pull this country from the depths of collapse, that the evil is government itself, is clearly the very political/economic ideology that has driven this country to the depths of ruin.
Government of, by, and for the People is what CONSTITUTES democracy itself. The undeniable fact that government is broken exists not because it IS government, but because it's permeated by the cancer of corporatism. You don't treat cancer by removing the good flesh and feeding the cancer.
The documentary "Burzynsky" gave a prime example -- yes, the FDA is undeniably criminal... but it's criminal because it's administered by corporate concern, by the actual corporate bodies it's tasked to regulate. But does that mean you abolish the FDA and let Elan and Pharma regulate and monitor themselves, trusting THEM to have the best interest of the American people? Hell NO! You remove THEM from the FDA!
G.W. Bush dismantled the USDA and constructed the mechanism for psychopathic behemoths like Monsanto to regulate themselves. And now Obama is nurturing that precedent.
The cancer metastasizes.
Obama is nothing more than a corporate shill. Both parties are infiltrated and totally corrupt. The GOP is, and always has been, nothing more than a tool for corporate greed and hegemony. And the neo-liberal Libertarian sucks in the disenchanted with attractive tags of Stop the Wars and Failed Drug Policy. But, as mastered by Obama, the rhetoric is a sinister representation of the action.
OWS is undefined, and it should remain so for the time being. Rage and dissatisfaction with the status quo will HOPEFULLY grow. And, if we're lucky, a true, progressive, powerful third-party challenge will emerge to treat and eradicate the cancer of corporatism.
America is being raped and pillaged, on the brink of systemic social and economic collapse. But it is the sentiment of OWS and the global unrest that offers a glimpse of hope... and is our ONLY worthwhile expression.
