Prosecuting War Crimes for Today and the Future

Editor’s Note: A conference to plan the prosecution of President Bush and other high administration officials for war crimes will be held September 13-14 at the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover. "This is not intended to be a mere discussion of violations of law that have occurred," said convener Lawrence Velvel, dean and cofounder of the school. See press release.

Re Prosecuting For War Crimes: As Lincoln Said, The Battle Of Today Is Not For Today Alone, But For A Vast Future.

In the last essay he wrote before his death, Arthur Schlesinger spoke of "national stupidity." Here is what he said:

Sometimes, when I am particularly depressed, I ascribe our behavior to stupidity -- the stupidity of our leadership, the stupidity of our culture. Thirty years ago we suffered military defeat -- fighting an unwinnable war against a country about which we knew nothing and in which we had no vital interests at stake. Vietnam was bad enough, but to repeat the same experiment thirty years later in Iraq is a strong argument for a case of national stupidity.

This writer has expressed the same thought here many times, perhaps in more Runyanesque language. It has been said, on several occasions, "After Viet Nam, who would've thunk it?""[N]ational stupidity." "Who would've thunk it?"

Yet it happened a second time. After Viet Nam no one thought it could happen again, and Congress took steps to assure it couldn't, such as enacting the War Powers Act, reining in the CIA, and banning electronic eavesdropping of Americans by the NSA. But it did happen again and worse -- worse because today we not only have a years-long unwinnable war, but also torture, kidnappings and renderings to foreign countries for torture, many years of detention without trial of people who are innocent, the use of massive private armies to help carry out Executive policies, electronic spying on anyone and everyone the Executive wishes, suppression of the media far beyond anything experienced during Viet Nam, reducing Congress to an impotency exceeding that of Viet Nam, the use of Executive Branch lawyers to write professionally incompetent, secret memoranda giving clearance to awful policies, and the use of retired generals who are making a fortune from the Pentagon to spread its gospel on the mainstream media.

Once again, as occurred after Viet Nam, people are likely to reflexively think it cannot happen again. But what assurance is there that five or ten or twenty or thirty years down the road, when some militarists or reactionaries might again come to power, we will not get Iraq redux, just as Iraq was Viet Nam redux? We have been shocked once. What is to prevent the possibility of being shocked again? There are cultural reasons for a potential Iraq redux that go back to the very beginning of American history. They have been written of extensively in two journal articles that are now on the internet, with shortened versions of them having been picked up by numerous websites. (The articles are by Professor Michael Sherry of Northwestern University and by me.) Briefly put, the reasons for another possible redux include:

· The nation largely does not know, and ignores, history

· A national penchant for violence

· Hubris

· Misbegotten, factually incorrect philosophies

· Lies, distortions, and delusions

· To the extent we consider history, viewing it through the prism of wars

· A desire to maintain American power at a preeminent level

· Congressional abdication of responsibility and congressional cowardice, coupled with Executive seizure of power

· The fact that America itself has not suffered the ravages of war internally in any extensive way since the Civil War

· Hollywood (i.e., The John Wayne syndrome)

FUCK BUSH! AMEN

FELLOW CARLINISTS, THE KNOWLEDGE THAT LIBERTY WITHOUT EQUALITY

IS KAPITALISM. EQUALITY WITHOUT LIBERTY IS IMPOSSIBLE.

SO, REMEMBER TO SAY "FUCK BUSH" AND TELL ALL NON-CARLINISTS YOU

DESIRE BOTH LIBERTY AND EQUALITY. IF YOU ARE TOLD "FUCK CHENEY"

EMBRACE YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND THANK THE WORLD

THAT THIS DOG HAS ASKED YOU TO CARRY ON IN THE CARLINIST

TRADITION. CIAO!

George W. Guilty of Murder?
A prominent lawyer lays out a compelling case in THE PROSECUTION OF GEORGE W. BUSH FOR MURDER. Staggering evidence is collected against the president in a startling new book.
"The preferable venue for the prosecution of George W. Bush for murder and conspiracy to commit murder would be in the nation's capital, with the prosecutor being the Attorney General of the Unite States acting through his Department of Justice. This book, however, establishes jurisdiction for any state attorney general (or any district attorney in any county of a state) to bring murder and conspiracy charges against Bush for any soldiers from that state or county who lost their lives fighting Bush's war, which as you can see applies to every state in this nation", excerpt taken from renowned prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi's stunning, insightful, best selling book "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder".

I hear cries for freedom elsewhere, while the US becomes less so. I hear support for free markets, then demanding a bailout due to incompetence.
I roll my eyes at those that accuse others being oppressed while the US has and still continues to the same and much worse. Laughing at pinheads who purchase and profit from those they curse.

The entire former and current Bu$h Cabal

should be impeached, trials of Treason, and then be marched off to the Hague to face War Crimes charges against them. All members of Congress the M$M and any other promoters of this farce War Of Terror, should also face similar charges too.

Then lock them up at Gitmo for a lifetime of incarceration enduring what "Enemy Combatant's" have. Confiscate their illegal amassed fortunes and give it to UN humanitarian projects where-ever innocents have been terrorized both domestically and abroad.

Then the world will see that the USA is serious about prosecuting "Terrorist's" no matter who they are or where they come from.

The next Executive administration should be forced to close all military bases not within the borders of the USA, and the Pentagons budget reduced to less than 1% of GDP. All branches of the military can only be used for national defense of the "Homeland".

Governments departments such as the CIA, NSA and others that foment the usurpation of foreign governments will forever be destined to the rubbish bin of US history. Any private standing armies such as Blackwater and others, have their administration face charges of Treason, murder, theft or graft if these crimes have been committed and then no longer allowed to fester their delusional reason for existence.

Dismantle the USA's Military Industrial Complex so its scum of corporate lobbyist's can-not any more influence national policy. All employees presently engaged in DOD programs not deemed vital to national security will be retrained in non military program applications. All nuclear, biological and other WMD's in the US arsenal be destroyed, with the intent to encourage other nations of the world to do the same.

Have the newly elected Congress and Executive not only swear and allegiance to the Constitution, but also to a new document that states the USA will not or ever more use force to promote its foreign policy agendas and can only use diplomacy as a means to coerce foreign governments to do the same.

Have the educational system of the USA include a portion of its curriculum outline the the misguided aggressive nature of the country's past and why its important not to glamorize this part of US history in the future.

The USA will then have laid a foundation for other peaceful means for the world to try and just get along with each other for future generations to enjoy and benefit from.

Add Pelosi and Conyers to the list

Along with the majority of the remaining Members of Congress

They walk in Lock step, together, creating a symbiotic fascist state, we don't need a miliatary coup and a Dictator when we already have a complicit, rubber stamp Congress and Senate.

The people are not represented.

The problem is...

...that expecting Bush, et al to be prosecuted is expecting too much from the government. After all, who does the prosecuting? The government. So you really can't expect them to prosecute themselves, can you?

The moral of the story is that government doesn't work. As long as we have governments we'll have abuse of power. Better the stateless society

No profit from crime!

I support a truth and reconciliation model to deal with these crimes but I feel that there is a case that those people who have committed or enabled these crimes should be stripped of the wealth power that they have so grievously misused.

Last night the DNC, despite overwhelming evidence

have refused to IMPEACH.

The action must be now taken to the states.

http://www.naag.org/attorneys_general.php

Lawyers like Vervel were NO HELP.

Kinda like Scott McClellan ..

We must now organize at state level, sad to say.

Torture cannot be done in our name, under the US Constitution, but who cared?

Let's just hope that no false flag or anthrax attack or something else goes off before we get our JUSTICE.

I stand to be corrected ..

and I offer my profound apologies.

This conference is necessary; I just felt it was too late, as I am an empath.

This is precisely what MUST be done for many reasons, which I am now aware of.

I will be there with bell's on! Bringing, I pray, a Canadian contingent in tow.

Again, if you see this Lawrence Velvel, I apologize.

I am a concerned citizen(and musician) of Canada, watching the madness unfold to my south. I am hoping to connect some of the dots between the Bush/Cheney regime, the neo-conservatives, the C.I.A, the military, and of course oil and the banking institutions. It is becomming quite obvious to most people who still retain their critical thinking skills the corruptness that pervades the current administration.

Be aware

There is one more thing you need to be aware and prepared for. The people that are guilty of these crimes will go( as we have seen) to any length to protect their interests. If we only knew how many people have been murdered, tortured, threatened, blacklisted, and paid off that have dared to threaren the criminal element in government.

There may be attempts to derail, discredit, or sabotage an event like this. (apart from the usual corporate blackout).

   good luck.
