Medicare Cuts

Are we being misled or lied to again by our federal government? Massive cuts in Medicare are being proposed. What would the dollars saved as a result of those cuts be used for. It appears that Congress is planning to cut $32 Billion in payments to nursing homes and Medicare is scheduled to reduce payments to doctors by 21 percent. All these cuts and a planned $14 Billion in cuts to Senior Home Health Care agencies would be disastrous for Seniors in dire need of help now.

I happen to be one of those seniors who may be affected by some or all of these cuts. I have been receiving Home Health Care physical therapy and am in dire need of a hip replacement. I was told today by an orthopedic surgeon that on a scale of one to ten with ten being the most urgent; my surgery ranks as a ten and will only be undertaken if clearance is given by my Cardiologist who will do a heart catheterization to determine the risk of this surgery to my damaged heart.

A recent national survey on the proposed nursing homer cuts indicates that, "Seniors are equally concerned, as 78% of those over 65 believe nursing home care will get worse because of such cuts and a majority believe care will get much more worse [58%]." Americans by a significant margin , strongly oppose cutting Medicare funding over other funding options with a full 66% of voters less likely to support their local member of Congress for reelection if they voted to cut seniors' Medicare funded care to finance healthcare reform. Further, I, for one, will never vote for another Democrat if Medicare cuts are used to fund healthcare reform.
