Doctors plan to use balance billing

Doctors nationwide fight for the right to return to "balance billing" in which case patients would be responsible for costs not allowed by Medicare .or private insurance. The Doctors claim declining revenues have not kept pace with costs, making a return to balance billing imperative. Some doctors who support balance billing say that "we offer a service and we should be paid for it; you may have no choice," because you may find that you have no doctor if our costs are not covered.

Insurance companies who oppose balance billing say it would destroy gains made in holding down rising premium costs. AARP is against the concept, describing balance billing as nothing more than a cost shift that will hurt patients.

Doctors had the right to balance-bill until 1989, when states and Congress began putting limits on how much they could bill back to patients above the co-payment and reimbursement amounts approved by Medicare. Few in the general public were aware of the change. Traditional insurance and managed-care plans soon followed suit. Ever since, the American Medical Association and other physician groups tried repeatedly to have unlimited balance billing rights reinstated.

On December 3, the American Medical Association voted in favor of renewing the fight for balance billing which they say is more critical than ever because of a ten percent cut in Medicare doctors’ reimbursements set for July 1.

another win win for corporations

the Republican party has long been accused of trying to destroy medicare and now we see the proof.Bush is cutting payments to doctors who threaten to make it up by forcing patients to pay whatever they want to recapture the lost cost and more.the cost of medical care will continue to spiral out of control with no limits.Instead of a univeral medical program we get Demorats, not a misspelling saying we should force Americans to buy health insurance with big deductibles. It looks like health care is another thing most Americans will have to learn to live without.isn"t democracy run by corporations and their candidate wonderful.Makes me proud to be an American, how about you

I am a retired opera singer. I was a leading soprano with the New York City Opera for ten years. I am a strong supporter of Dennis Kucinich and worked for his campaign in 2004. I believe that he is the ONLY honest man in congress. He has been working against this insane war since before it began. I am 72 years old and I have been so frustrated with the media, the Congress and the American people that they don't tell the truth.

Didn't you see this coming?

"Follow the money" is the phrase. And doctors have always been good at that. God forbid that we should have a not for profit health care plan as Dennis Kucinich proposed. We are 47th in the world as far as quality health care is concerned. Aren't you proud to be an American? I'm not! I'm embarassed to be an American. We are paying the highest prices for health care and getting 47th best.

Go ahead, America, vote for Hillary or Barack. Nothing will change as far as health care is concerned. No, I'm wrong. It will probably get worse. People will be forced to buy health insurance that they can't afford. Doesn't that give you the warm fuzzies?

The MSM will continue to cover crap instead of the news. The war will go on and if Bush and Cheney aren't impeached, we will be at war with Iran. Although God knows where the soldiers will come from. Now that Bush is demanding that schools give unfettered access to high school kids for recruiting or else face unfunding from the government there will be younger and less qualified people to be killed by another  evil war that we were lied into.

It's a rather bleak future, isn't it? Yes, and it could have been avoided if impeachment had  gone forward and we had jailed Bush and Cheney. If the MSM and corporate America hadn't shut out Dennis Kucinich the people might have known all about this.

Once again I weep for my country.
