For OpEdNews: W. Christopher Epler (Bill) - Writer Godspeed to President Elect Barack Obama. Maybe he'll come out of some kind of "moderate" closet a year or two into his presidency. But, for now, his appointments are wall to wall right wingers. Yes, they're dem right wingers, but is that really such an improvement over pug right wingers? Stupid us; we bought the scam that he was going to be something like FDR number 2. You know, a hero of change, a transcender of the status quo, someone who would save America from its political system/prison.
But, the guy's turning out to be status quo incarnate. And even worse, he's turning out to be a clone of the 2006 Congress. You remember them. They were the ones puked out by the DLC Clinton machine who cowardly and slavishly obeyed every whim of George Bush.
Some folks seem to think we shouldn't hold Obama accountable for anything until after his inauguration. Gee, he isn't even President yet, so he can't be held responsible for anything.
Duh. Dear God, the man's already put into place most of the infrastructure of his administration, so yes, I think we CAN (and must!) hold him accountable for all of his appointments, etc. -- unless the tooth fairy is making those appointments.
To be fair, his excellent appointment for Attorney General is going to give nightmares to racist sheriff types, but what about all the rest of us? What about the working class and America’s so-called middle and lower classes? From the point of view of his “economic team”, it totally looks like his first commitment is to Wall Street, not Main Street.
Our only (slim) hope left is that eventually Obama will commit to policies diametrically opposed to his own appointees. Indeed, he probably can do that, but I bet the odds makes in Vegas would laugh at such a possibly.
There really isn't much more to talk about. And even if there were, it would just add to the sadness that B. Obama is clearly going to have a very right wing Presidency.
In a way it all comes back to advertising since presidential and congressional elections have mostly degenerated to a contest between two businesses, and the one that wins is the one whose advertising campaign successfully sells the soap. However, we should remember that "advertising" has NOTHING to do with facts and truth; indeed exactly the opposite, since its goal is to delude people with elaborately constructed lies to get them to buy things they neither need nor can afford.
Well, we bought the Obama soap. We really didn't have much choice since McCain would almost certainly have been worse, but that doesn't change the fact that the Obama soap of right wing dem appointments holds very little hope of washing any national/international hands.
Another way to look at this is that BOTH of the two parties are far to the right of the vast majority of American citizens and voters, and we just go saddled with the one that is not "quite" so far to the right as the pug party.
Of course, such a comparison is really moot since we haven't had a truly two party system for decades. No, what we've got is a ONE dem/pug party system which:
(l.) has become our prison, and
(2.) is utterly and absolutely under the control the American Dictatorship of the Rich, and
