With the non-issue of homosexual marriage, California leads the way again.

The governor, the Congress, the Supreme Court, and now the attorney general have all agreed that they cannot deny homosexuals the right to marriage. Such a denial would be the end of the US Constitution and our bill of rights with its basic tenet that all citizens are equal under the law, and have equal access to the law. The popular vote to deny such rights to one group, the homosexual population, is Constitutionally invalid. Clear and simple.

What is marriage?

It is not solely a religious entity. People can get married without any religion's sanction or ceremony. Marriage is a state acknowledged contract between two people for their legally binding obligations and inheritances.

What is the argument against homosexual marriage? Religion?

Our government system clearly separates religion from government. Religious bigotry can't be used as a reason for legislation. And such bigotry can't be used to deny others their Constitution guarantees.

Tradition?

Slavery was a tradition. Suppression of the rights of women was a tradition. Racial segregation was tradition. Christian tradition persecuted the Jews for over a thousand years. Justifiably, those traditions were abandoned when faced with evolved wisdom understanding of the Constitutional mandate of equality.

Children?

Right wingers try and use the issue of the procreation of children as a claim for heterosexual boundary to marriage, but there are plenty of heterosexual couples who are infertile that use artificial insemination or adoption as a means for a couple to have children.

The freedoms guaranteed by the constitution must be maintained even against a popular vote. If one group can be voted out of equality and exempted from constitutional freedom, then a mob motivated by hatreds, bigotry, and religious perversion, can start denying any of us our Constitutional rights and freedoms. Then we have no America, and to the world we are, as has been said before, the great hypocrite.

After all the arguments based upon politics, law, and reason, it really comes down to love.

Is there a boundary to human love and understanding?

There is an inherent lack of love in those who would deny freedoms and joys to others. It always seem odd that those who profess religion most ardently are the ones using religious perversion to deny love, acceptance, joy, generosity.

As history continues, it is religious-based intolerances that are thrown out. We always need more love in this world. It is always hate, bitterness, and bigotry that needs to be abandoned to have a world that is healthy and sane.
