Government Through Failure

It appears the quickest way to getting promoted among the 'higher ups' has been to f*ck up (or be one), and do it in a big way.

It started with the 2000 appointment by the US Supreme Court when they awarded George W. Bush the presidency. His failures were numerous as a citizen (how many times was he arrested? For being drunk, for disorderly conduct, perhaps for illegal drug usage), as a business executive, and as a member of the armed services (or should we say deserter of those services).

We then experienced promotions to the likes of General Richard Myers, who was in charge of the completely idle military non-response during the 9/11 murders. In fact, he was promoted to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs a scant two days after his dereliction of duty and criminal negligence on 9/11.

We then saw Condoleezza Rice promoted to Secretary of State after she not only failed in her role of National Security Adviser prior to, and during those same 9/11 murders, but followed that up with committing perjury while under oath no fewer than a dozen time when questioned by the 9/11 Commission.

Then there is the promoting of Henry Paulson to Treasury Secretary. This after he acted as head of Goldman Sachs, a firm he bailed out once he became a part of the government and after he received some $400 Million in severance. Now I ask if he had done such a stellar job would the company have needed to be bailed out, or was he paid such an outrageous amount because they knew they would be getting that back, in spades, in the near future?

The same can be said of the new Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner. If he had been so great in his prior position as president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank in overseeing the dealings of the financial institutions why did they all require bailing out due in large part to faulty, or shady, business dealings? Instead, he is promoted to the highest financial position in our nation.

While there have been many others that could be mentioned, the last one is Ben Bernanke. Although he is not a part of government, his position is one which is assigned by Congress. Just a scant 6 months ago he announced to the same Congress that he did not know the whereabouts of Billion dollars, they confirmed his appointment for another term.

One can only surmise from these that the quickest way to promotion is to utterly fail. That is certainly not something that should be promoted to our youth or our nation will definitely be doomed, and I do not believe that is the message that is being played out. Rather, I firmly believe it is our government's way of squelching any form of honest investigation that might take should these individuals not be promoted, because it simply keeps them 'happy'.

In each of these instances these individuals should have been fired, rather than promoted (perhaps even incarcerated). In each of these instances a firing could have initiated investigations that may well have produced many negative things and the outcomes would have been drastically different than they presently are. Perhaps it was to eliminate those investigations that made their promotions necessary. Hmmmm, just wondering.
