Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, while doing a townhall type event, was shot in the head at point blank range reportedly by Jared Lee Loughner, 22 years old. Loughner allegedly also shot a number of other people outside a Tucson grocery store.
Giffords recently called for a congressional paycut.
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, while doing a townhall type event, was shot in the head at point blank range reportedly by Jared Lee Loughner, 22 years old. Loughner allegedly also shot a number of other people outside a Tucson grocery store.
ABC reports, " Dr. Peter Rhee, trauma director at UMC, told reporters Giffords was shot once in the head and that the bullet went through her brain. He added that she was responsive to doctors' commands.
"I am very optimistic about her recovery," Rhee said."
Fox news reports that 12 people were shot including several of Giffords' staffers. Six others were also killed.
The shooter is in custody.
Giffords recently called for a congressional paycut.
She is considered among the ten most non-conforming Democrats, not voting with the bloc 40% of the time.
Sarah Palin included Giffords in her list of gun-targets as th is poster from sarahpac below shows. There is not yet any information on the shooter or the shooter's motivations.
