Remaining consistent to his long term approach toward lassoing Bush Administration thugs, House Judicial Committee Chair John Conyers tossed the subpoena rope around the throat of Karl Rove, then let Rove wiggle out of the noose and run away, again. At the request of Rove’s lawyer, Robert Luskin, Conyers agreed to extend the deadline for Rove to appear for another three weeks. The new deadline is Monday, February 23rd.
In granting the extension out of consideration for attorney Luskin’s attempts to seek an executive privilege shield for Rove from President Obama, and to be courteous to Luskin’s travel plans, Conyers, once again, proves himself to be a public tease with no backbone. In fact, in the letter sent to Rove’s attorney, Conyers declares,” I am happy to reschedule Mr. Rove’s deposition….”
So, Karl Rove laughs, brags and spits on the House Judicial Committee, defying the chairman’s subpoenas to appear and testify about the politicization of the United States Justice Department and firing of U.S. attorneys, and Conyers remains the happy gentleman who always lets Turd Blossom get away. This game has been too predictable for too long.
Perhaps the larger question is: has the Conyer virus proved highly contagious and infected the majority of the House and Senate majority? Symptoms of fear and denial of their own power, bordering on Attention Deficit Disorder, seemed to have made the Democrats lethargic, manic and stupid.
Is this why President Obama would rather consult with Republicans than those in his own party?
