A Declaration of Independence from the Government of the United States

Tell A Friend

This article is from an anonymous woman now living in South Africa. It was sent to me by a third party, and I have no reason to believe that it's bogus. In any case, I believe its relevance to the present moment is stunning.--CB]

Through my signature below I hereby withdraw my consent to be ruled by the  organization that has called itself the Government of the United States of  America.

A government is empowered through the consent of the governed to serve a sacred purpose, namely, to create a bright and sustainable future for its  people and a biodiverse garden of its region. This purpose is possible.

If a government no longer serves its intended purpose then it is proper that each individual formally withdraw his or her consent to be ruled by that  government.

Through a consistent stream of actions the United States Government has proved itself to be corrupt, having turned away from serving its original purpose. The United States Government has therefore failed, and is de facto illegitimate. Consequently, all of its authorities over me are hereby removed and the United States Government is hereby disbanded in its entirety. All branches, the legislative, executive and judicial branches, including all offices and resources, political, military, informational and financial, are hereby disenfranchised and replaced by local, self-organizing, bioregional governments and currencies that promote sustainable infrastructures and demonstrably serve the principles of integrity, transparency, interdependence, consciousness and the sustainable well being of their entire ecology.

Human beings carry an inalienable responsibility for choosing to whom or what they pledge their allegiance. From this moment forward I no longer pledge my allegiance to the organization that has called itself the Government of the United States of America. We are dissociated. I disallow that organization to legislate, adjudicate, use money, or make agreements in my name, either nationally or internationally. I hereby withdraw my franchise from the United States Government and I no longer submit myself to its authority. I hereby abandon my United States Passport as worthless, null and void because through its own actions the United States Government has invalidated itself.

This document recognizes that the United States Government has:

Irredeemably abolished itself by no longer fulfilling its true purpose. This document announces that I take my authority back from that failed organization. The United States Government no longer has authority to represent me, tax me, detain me, question me, or in any way rule over me. It can no longer take any actions in my name. From this moment forward I take back my autonomy. I hereby declare my independence from the organization that has called itself the Government of the United States of America.

Although I alone, without reason or circumstance, am responsible for my decision to withdraw my franchise and allegiance from the organization that has called itself the Government of the United States of America, I am willing to name examples of how this organization has betrayed the purpose for which it was originally created:

1. The Government of the United States of America (herein referred to as the Government) has consistently legislated in favor of a carbon-based economy that multiplies corporate profits while disregarding the increases in greenhouse gas concentrations to the point where the future of all of humanity is now seriously threatened by the consequences of global warming.

2. The Government has promoted the use of nuclear powered electric generation plants creating millions of tons of lethal nuclear waste products that can never be safely stored, and creating decommissioned power plants that remain radioactive for eternity.

3. The Government has abused its leadership position in the world by promoting fear-based military force as the international culture of America, rather than a culture of innovation, compassion, respect, and mutual support of humanity.

4. The Government over and over again, and still now is using illegal DU (Depleted Uranium) weapons and devices in direct opposition to signed United Nations agreements, degrading the United States of America to a renegade country, likely to have its leadership regime brought to war crimes trials and capitally punished.

5. The Government has promoted an unsustainable consumerism culture that multiplies corporate profits while devouring the future's natural resources and producing mountains, rivers and seas of toxic unrecyclable wastes. The consumer economy never did have a future and still the government promoted it wholeheartedly.

6. The Government has promoted covert military actions and subterfuge that includes traffic in illegal drugs, illegal weapons trade, assassinations, illegal takeovers of corporations and governments, and ruthless competition rather than intelligent cooperation or creative collaboration.

7. The Government has allowed itself to be infiltrated and corrupted by corporate and elite regimes that now direct the branches of Government to serve purposes contrary to the true and proper purpose of government.

8. The Government has turned over control of the currency of the United States of America (the original world currency) to private individuals who manipulate it for their own personal benefit rather than for the benefit of the world.

9. The Government has promoted a system of education that keeps people stupid rather than developing their innate potential and well being so they can create satisfying lives, fulfilling relationships and loving families in the 21st Century. The Government has allowed corporations and organized religions to control school curriculums, and has permitted drugs, gangs and guns to define the school experience for many children.

10. The Government has promoted economy over humanity in a value system that shamelessly sponsors injustice, inequity, and slavery, not only in America but around the world, regarding people in developing nations not as brothers and sisters but as sweatshop slaves for producing cheap clothes and the latest technological devices.

11. The Government has designed cities and towns around automobiles and roads rather than around people, cutting people off from their own community and trapping people in suburbs that are not sustainable.

12. The Government has consistently sponsored an imbalanced budget and has accrued a national debt over one trillion dollars that future generations must somehow pay back, meanwhile losing track of an additional trillion dollars.

13. The Government has greedily destroyed the future of civilization by developing an infrastructure, energy, food, housing and transportation systems relying entirely on consuming vast quantities of hydrocarbons that exist in limited supply, thus building a dangerous house of cards that will now tumble down as oil, gas and coal supplies dwindle. If half of the war budget would have been redirected towards developing renewable power for the last twenty years, the entire country would be oil free by now.

14. The Government has promoted a diet of fat-saturated fast-foods, and hormone and antibiotic saturated beef, pigs, poultry, and dairy products that endanger the health and general well being of its people, ground water and farmlands. The Government has also promoted fishing grounds to be exhausted to near extinction, and promotes deforestation and dependence on pesticides and fertilizers that undermine foreign economies but makes huge profits for corporations.

15. The Government has promoted the so-called patenting and engineering of the genetic designs of life forms to be used for the profit of corporations while endangering the future of the humanity.

16. The Government has promoted the introduction of genetically modified organisms into the general food chain for the profit of corporations while endangering the future of humanity.

17. The Government has used military force, assassination, and political manipulation to overthrow other governments as a desperate attempt to control remaining oil supplies for the purpose of maintaining the illusionary value of a world petro-dollar to assure profit for the corporations rather than assuring a bright future for the people.

18. The Government has promoted a medical establishment that profits pharmaceutical corporations and has blocked the development of less profitable but more humanistic, holistic and intuitive healing modalities.

19. The Government has persistently implemented legislation and presidential orders to override constitutional rights, and has built and  staffed over 600 new prison camps across the country prepared to imprison citizens who might be regarded as the enemy of Government.

These and other actions reveal that the United States Government has irredeemably abolished itself by no longer fulfilling its original and true purpose.

This government

has committed terrorism against its own citizens (9/11) and blamed it on others to perpetuate its aggressive illegal wars.

An anonymous declaration by an individual is just rhetoric

When the founding fathers put their signatures to the declaration of independence they did not remain anonymous.  They did not equivocate or shield themselves from the consequences of their convictions.  They might have been found guilty of treason and executed had their subsequent revolution failed.

Reply: Brett, you're quite right, but....

Brett, you make a very real point and I agree with you.

That said, there are some fundamental differences between now and then:

a) The founding fathers were on American soil, safely out of reach from their English would-be captors. Don't forget it was all about sea and land travel then: No airplanes, no computers, nothing of the sort. They were comparatively safe from execution for treason, even if it also was a risk.

b) Having myself had weird phone calls after letters to the editor were printed in my name, and knowing journalists whose lives were threatened, I support anybody who wants to do their work and protect themselves at the same time.

But you are quite right. No doubt our founding fathers were brave and stuck their necks out. Quite literally too. No doubt they were "radical" and could have easily been branded as kooks, etc.

Thank you all.

Reply: Washington saw the future on the other side of the Rubicon

he didn't stay on the safe side to endure the status quo in singular anonymity.

Good rhetoric and good sentiments are still good rhetoric and good sentiments they are not nothing. But human beings respect courage in each other and they find displays of character impressive and persuasive.

If one can communicate ones strongest feelings and thoughts bravely one can be seen to be ready to stand behind them. That can give others pause to reflect.

There are now 40 men and women on the House Judiciary Committee who have had Kucinich's 35 articles of impeachment, serious charges on serious matters such as torture and aggressive invasion against the Presidinet laid out in front of them. Those 40 men and women have taken oaths to defend the constitution against domestic enemies. They have individual consciences and individual voting records. They might like and hope sometimes too to avoid the burden of having to stand behind their actions. But sometimes people have to stand up behind their name or let their principles be stood down.

It seems unjust and unhealthy to participatory democracy when the stakes are so very high to require of representatives that they should shoulder all of the risks of non anonymity.

It can take a very long time (and evidence) to change the minds of so many different people so much and now when the House Judiciary Committee a majority of whose members voted to send Kucinich's 35 articles of impeachment to themselves for consideration is not the time to be giving up on America and going into singular anonymity. Now is the time for citizens to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for citizens with names to be asking their representatives and the men and women who are on the House Judiciary Committee what they think of Kucinich's 35 articles (the charge sheet against Bush).

The future is on the other side of the Rubicon and belongs to people with names and principles and the status quo is on this side.

True

This Government that we call 'ours' has certainly ceased to serve We the People.  It does however serve our masters very well indeed.

govt serves the People; the People don't owe "allegiance"

was/is this person a US Citizen (or citizen)? This is not a formal renunciation of citizenship, even if it weren't anonymous (as we all know, the NSA, CIA and FBI could easily know who this person is, if they don't already)

It's off-base on a few things; no one owes allegiance to the "government"; some pledge allegiance to the Flag and the Republic for which it stands, and our elected/appointed "public servants" take an Oath to defend the Constitution of the US, which authorizes the existence of the US government, and makes clear by its opening words "We the People" that the source of the government's authorities and powers are drawn from the will of the People; they don't reside in the govt itself. As they do, the govt is not dissolved by the statement or wishes of this one person, or even a super-majority. 100% of the People could declare the govt doesn't exist (and if 100% did so, maybe it would go poof!), but it will probably continue to exist until we hold an Article 5 Convention for Proposing Amendments and abolish the Constitution, or change it so radically it cannot be considered the same government (even if the mandatory Convention is held, which every Congress, every 2 years, has treasonously failed to do, despite the required number of applications (2/3) having been received last century, and states continue to submit them; all 50 states have submitted http://www.foavc.org ), or until we vote in people who will make a mockery of representative govt; like the Dems and Reps have been doing since the beginning of their "factions" (parties) which the founding fathers warned against, and don't mention in the Constitution.

According to the Preamble of the Constitution (the part that declares the document's purpose), the government is created for 6 reasons:

We the people of the United States, In order to:

1) form a more perfect union,

2) establish justice,

3) insure domestic tranquility,

4) provide for the common defense,

5) promote the general welfare, and

6) secure the blessings of liberty

to ourselves and our posterity,

Do ordain and establish

This Constitution

For the United States of America.

Anonymous has compiled a good list of reasons to believe this current system of pretended representation isn't working; points like these should be the debate and campaign issues- not flag lapel pins- and neither war-mongerer, not Obama or McCain wants to be faced with  these issues, and the corporate media won't do it.

So, what's the solution? I think raising public awareness of what's really going on, turning people on to indy/alt media and the various tools/resources afforded by the Web to get educated and involved politically, and make your voice heard by other people, including our "representatives" and "fourth estate". The reps and media will be out of a job if people don't vote them in and buy their crap- so vote for good people, and only support good companies; don't vote for deceivers and calculators, and don't buy crap from companies that are enslaving the human race. When enough people are making alternative choices, the govt and corps will have to adapt to us; the realization that the People are organizing for change can bring the unaccountable elites to the table. In the past, their approach has been to try to divide and conquer people's movements by infiltrating them, sowing bad info, planting leaders who confuse, divide, lead in wrong directions while maintaining they have integrity and wisdom, etc. This article may well be one of those attempts, or it may really be the work of someone who is genuinely disaffected and did the best they could with what they knew.

Elites really should get a clue; the old, dishonest models no longer work in the age of transparency. Technology continues to empower individuals at an ever more rapid pace- start reaching out for a truth and reconciliation commission before you lose everything, including your freedom, wealth and posterity.

Even the elites have factions in their class- does anyone else think Brzezinski's statement to Congress was a warning to the Bush Administration against another false-flag attack? As FDR noted, there are no accidents in politics.

Reply: Amendments require 3/4 of the states to ratify

before they are made part of the Constitution; there is absolutely NO WAY to have a "runaway" convention, as some in the elite class are spreading disinfo and sowing fear about- besides the fact that it's mandatory. If the scum that pretend to "represent" us see fit to introduce Amendments now and then (like banning gay marriage as a political tool), then certainly the People have the Right to have Congress hold the Convention- petition your govt for redress of grievances; before the Republocrats kill the Constitution completely.

Friends of the Article 5 Convention

http://www.foavc.org

One other point; if people can't be roused to support the Constitution and hold a simple Convention, how are the People going to be roused to "declare independence from the govt"? If the statement is to mean anything, it means you're revolting. This person is safely in S Africa, supposedly; if you live in this country, are you gonna board yourself up in your house, or march on Washington?

Seems to me that at least some articles like this are probably being put out to test public opinion and identify "radicals"

A New Declaration of Independence

This is a quote:

Article V of the Constitution of the United States provides that "on the application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, Congress shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments..."

The Founding Fathers of the nation recognized the importance of providing this means by which we, the people, could initiate amendments to change and or clarify the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land.

For a long time most politicians have felt they would not profit from doing that, because they like the status quo whether they are Republicans or Democrats. And they still don’t, even though the Constitution has been ignored and essentially brushed aside by the Bush Regime, and even though political and corporate corruption has become very damaging to our national well being.

But many in the past have favored a Constitutional Convention, including such notables as Republican Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

In his first inaugural address, March 4, 1861, Lincoln said: "Continue to execute all the express provisions of our National Constitution, and the Union will endure forever, it being impossible to destroy it except by some action not provided for in the instrument itself..." "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it." And Lincoln added that "to me the convention mode seems preferable, in that it allows amendments to originate with the people themselves, instead of only permitting them to take or reject propositions originated by others..."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower also supported an Article V Convention saying: "Through their state legislatures and without regard to the federal government, the people can demand a convention to propose amendments that can and will reverse any trends they see as fatal to true representative government."

President Eisenhower warned against the growing power of the Military-Industrial Complex when he left office. But, as I have said on the page titled Little Known American History, Eisenhower’s warning was not heeded. In fact, the Military-Industrial Complex not only grew and became more corrupt, it became the Religious-Military-Industrial Complex in 1980, and has become even more so in the last seven years. But it is religious in name only, and does not serve God or humanity. It serves Mammon and the wealthiest few, and it has proven fatal to truly representative government.

Unquote

That was quoted from an article that begins with this:

America is at a crossroads, and Americans have a big choice to make, because their choice will affect the whole world.

I urge all Americans to not allow themselves to be pushed backwards by those who like the political-economic status quo and still wish to virtually rule the world in the name of religion and/or patriotism and/or "global free market economy." That would only make things worse than they already are. After all, they’ve had their way for far too long, and look where it’s gotten us.

I urge Americans to instead progress forward now, toward the day when ALL human beings, nations, religions, races and cultures are respected and treated as equal.

It is the choice of the people, and I hope the people choose wisely.

But, I’m not talking about merely choosing a Democrat for president. In fact, as I discuss on the page titled Partisan Politics, even though that would certainly be better than what we have now, it would not really fix things, and it would only perpetuate the division, polarization, and instability. No, I’m talking about a much bigger choice, a choice that will actually change and improve this nation, establish government that is really of, by and for the people, and make America a truly good example to the whole world.

I believe we all should hold these truths to be self-evident: that all human beings are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are the rights to life, liberty, equality, justice, safety, health care, complete education, fair and adequate compensation for their labor, adequate social security (if and when needed, so that no one suffers from hunger, poverty, or homelessness), and real freedom in the pursuit of happiness.

We do not have any of those rights now. Not really. In fact, our rights have been diminishing, and there is no politician in America right now who will establish those rights. They may say they will, but they won’t and cannot, not as long as we perpetuate the present political-economic system.

I believe that to establish and secure our God-given rights, the people should adopt a New Declaration of Independence based on the real truth, and demand a Constitutional Convention to adopt constitutional amendments that will ensure those rights.

Constitutional Convention

Are you nuts!  WTF do you think will be the end result of this with these corrupt SOB's in power.  They tried to do this in 1975 and failed by 3 states if memory serves me right.

They had a Declaration of Interdependence already to go, which was signed by some members of the Senate and House.  The new constitution provided a legal process for the transfer of US sovereignty to a global or regional entity.

A constitutional convention would be the elites wet dream come true.

The government has been hijacked by traitors, and you are without representation, as were the Founding Fathers in 1776.

Constitution, what constitution?

The real constitution is "of" not "for" the people.  We lost it in 1789.  Today we have a Constitution which is more in the form of corporate bylaws and statutes in commerice which act to the the sole benefit of the corporation USA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, etc.   This corporation along with partnership corps IRS, FEDERAL RESERVE, etc. manage us in nearly every respect via contracts which we allow overtely or by silence.  The original Constitution and and laws were retired in 1938 with the New Deal.   The rights of the people to print money for use as a medium of exchange in commerice was surrendered in 1913.  The original basis of our currency, gold was removed in or around 1956 and finally cut as a basis completely in 1971.

This declaration is on point in that one must remove oneself completely from all contractual obligations and percieved benefits from the corporation.  If all 300M plus people did this, the few hundreds in charge at the moment would be totally defenseless.  All credit, power is generated from the people, the corporate guys have little defense.  The recent court decision on retaining gun rights will prove important in the case where the 300M people get tired of what is currently going on here in the usa.

the 'Gubment'

The Gubment is who controls the necessary force to implement its decisions.

The Gubment is who controls the media to manage the 'minds' of the bulk of the populace.

The Gubment is who controls the courts, legislation all under the illusion of legitimacy.

The Gubment is who controls the elections.

What is the Gubment is one thing. What it was or what the founders declared it to be so many many years ago is a wholly other matter.

If you want to declare your independence to and cessation of loyalty to this Gubment.. do so silently. A vow to yourself. To do everything in your power, everything possible to 'dissolve' the illegitimate.  To circumvent the evil. To fight for the human race.
