"New Years Day Early"

But we felt instead that at last we were climbing upward, taking our first tentative steps, and, like sometimes stumbling tots, uttering the first fledgling syllables of a new vocabulary.

For we had learned simply to cry aloud: happy new year!

Yes. It may be early November, but, for all of us, New Years came early!
