To those who think if we the people were to vigorously organize to end the “war on terror” while Obama is running for president Obama’s campaign would suffer, I ask, than what agenda should we pursue during Obama’s campaign? Do you propose that we the people sit down and wait for hope and change to win in November and then go to work overturning Bush policies that are an aversion to humanity and the fabric of this nation?

If we do not answer the question of why Obama won the Democratic nomination collectively and respond to that answer with action, McCain will win in November. More importantly, repugnant Bush Administration policies will continue after the election is over for sure.

Fear is not a basis of democracy and we must not shirk our duty to independently ignite a movement that would make Obama a fool if he didn’t tap into it.

*Note: In wishing to articulate a move forward for progressives, I chose not to muddy the clarity of this article by discussing the possibility that Obama was nominated because Democrats had not ended the war yet, had not responded to Michael Moore by bringing H.R. 676, a single-payer healthcare bill, to the House floor, and had not started impeachment hearings, etc. Had Democrats chosen to stand for something instead of nothing prior to primary season, I do not think Obama would be the nominee. But, Democratic Party inaction in response to the Bush program has allowed a pragmatic centrist to take the helm and has led progressives/liberals to happily or unhappily accept him as leader of the progressive movement (or lack thereof) in America.

Now what do we do? The future is unwritten. Which one we get is up to us.
