This will also take time and it is also absolutely mandatory, so work should begin now. We now live in a global economy and the United States is one of the few nations that does not have a globally competitive system of taxation. The few goods America still exports are taxed by almost all of the foreign nations we export to. American companies are paying for health care in countries like Germany -- making them more competitive than the U.S. in the global markets. This must change in a way that also benefits American citizens, and this type of tax reform could easily help bring to pass the public option America's health-care system so desperately needs.
Bring our troops home.
Keeping our troops in bases all over the world does not help the United States in any real or meaningful way. The United States spends too much on the world's largest war machine. This forces the government to borrow money from China and other competing nations to keep the lights on. Rather than rebuilding the Middle East, it is time to rebuild New York, New Jersey and the rest of the United States.
President Obama needs to make some hard choices and get America on the path to more permanent economic solutions. By taking the above steps, America will have the ability to see a full recovery on Main Street and Americans will be able to walk the streets as proud members of a productive society.
