Prayer and Guns
Sadly, the FRC's
plaints are fostered by many right-wing PACs and Tea Party politicos, trying to
drum up as much fear and loathing of public education as possible: like
terrorist attacks on the very idea of "public" education, social
conservatives and their supporters look to take control of public education by
eliminating it, then forming it to their own rigid (and exclusive) standards.
They focus not on "back TO school" as much as "back IN
school", with prayer and guns being
the wedges.

Pornographic
The prim and proper
schoolmarm (and librarian) of 100 years ago has given rise to the homosexual
sex education teacher eager to teach atheism and lure every child away from
what is moral and good. Or so it seems to the social conservative out to
terrorize the American educational system. Moral critics like Linda Harvey
(Mission America) warn parents not to send children to a school with any
indoctrinating gays. Christian Right politicians excoriate school boards that
support teaching evolution. Red state school boards purchase textbooks with
proper revisionist history. Sex education is considered verboten in some
districts.
In fact, it seems
that the real enemy of social conservatives is ... reality. It always has been,
of course, but this time they're going back to school as terrorists of reality
... and a good education.
