"JPMorgan Chase is on the run in this campaign and they are looking for a way to end this campaign," said Gaya. "[They are seeing that] people are willing to go beyond making a phone call and sending a email [and are] canceling their account and taking direct action."
According to RAN, Chase has tried to downplay their investment or support for mountaintop removal projects. Activists in the RAN network have "received emails from James Fuschetti, Managing Director of the Office of Environmental Affairs at JPMC. In his emails to RAN activists, Fuschetti claims that JPMorgan's "financing in this industry [coal and MTR] are quite small,' and disputes JPMorgan Chase's relationship with Massey Energy the largest mountaintop removal mining company in the United States."
This action, which has significant national importance, increases the desire Chase executives have to see RAN bring their campaign to convince Chase Bank to divest from MTR to an end. It increases the likelihood that RAN will be in a bargaining position.
What took place was primarily for those who work and run Chase, but photos and video of the action are out there. Activists expect these photos and video will be circulated and will inspire others to take similar actions against Chase in the future.
Here is video from the action ---
