UnAmerican? Would you call the bellowing disruptors Unamerican? Stenny Hoyer does. In a USA TODAY editorial, he says, "These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades"
I'm not sure it's unamerican to express anger. Then again, the history of this kind of behavior, the attacks on vote counting centers in Florida-- proves that they were effective in stopping justice from prevailing. And it's certainly disingenuous for Peggy Noonan to make the claims she's making. And it's disappointing that people who SUPPORT health care are not so passionate as the opponents.
Maybe the Democrats who were elected by people who expected real health care reform need to see how angry the people who elected them will be if they fail to do their job and produce real health care reform.
I've been working hard on health care reform, organizing and speaking at events, writing articles, talking to my legislators, making health care reform a featured issue-- the number one issue on my radio show which reaches metro Philly and south NJ.
The problem is, those on the left want to have a relationship with their legislators. They want real dialogue, not a one way screaming event. They're NOT going to shout. Maybe they should use signs that say-- "not shouting but really angry! Make Health Care Reform Happen!"
Because believe me, if Max Baucus and the minority of right wingers have their way, and real health care reform is blocked. there will be tens of millions of very angry Americans-- not politically incorrect oddball making a lot of noise-- and they will vote those Democrats out of office. The Dems facing these angry crowds need to stand up and represent the majority who elected them. They need to face down this handful of loudmouths and get the job done. And the mainstream media should be talking to the millions of Americans who have been victims of the current, private insurer based health care system, not the angry few who are the loudest and most mediagenic. There are dramatic stories worthy of the telling. They're far more compelling the the bellowing chants of a small minority of people who voted for losers.
When our editor started asking questions, not yelling, just asking questions, Pelosi had her forcibly removed. The legislators who face these bellowing, boisterous disruptors should take a tough stand too-- have them arrested if they prevent the townhall from doing what was intended. If A cop can arrest a black man on his own porch for being irate, for disorderly conduct, then police can arrest these disruptors for real disorderly conduct. I'm involved in organizing an event in early September and I plan to have police on hand and intend to have disruptors removed and arrested if they don't respect the protocols for the event.
