Timothy Geithner's Tax Problems

    

Timothy Geithner is the nominee for Treasury Secretary. 

The Internal Revenue Service director will report to Mr. Geithner.

We have learned that Mr. Geithner has had 15 years of persistant tax filing and payment problems.  He has paid substantial back taxes and penalties after his problems were uncovered.  He has characterized these problems as just 'goofs'.  Others have said that there appears to be an ongoing intent to file fraudulent tax returns.

What action should President Obama take concerning Mr Geithner?

Mr Geithner's name should be withdrawn by President Elect Obama.
Mr Geithner should be encouraged to withdraw his own name.
Let Congress investigate and decide whether Mr Geithner is fit to serve.
Mr Geithner should be confirmed as Secretary of Treasury by Congress.
