- Ode
to The OP/ED Writer

-
- I write political OP/ED
pieces
- Cause politicians are a
devious species.
- Once our leaders assume the
mantel of power,
- Their decisions are the
gospel of the hour.
-
- They act in secret to
protect national security.
- I’ve come to suspect
their purity.
- Power is an unquenchable
thirst,
- You wonder whose interests
go first.
-
- Democrats or Republicans it
makes no matter,
- The more power they gain
their friends get fatter.
- Pork is the ambrosia of our
political leaders,
- If unchecked they become
voracious feeders.
-
- Government tolerates our
right to pry.
- But secretly they assume
most people won’t try.
- The media are suspect and
accused of left wing bias
- If the public buys the spin
they will walk and not try us.
-
- Richard Nixon, Oliver North
and G. Gordon Liddy
- Hundreds more-what a pity.
- When leaders abuse their
power and lie,
- The damage they do is vast
and will not die.
-
- So OP/ED writers must
commit to remind us,
- That even a President will
occasionally cuss.
- The news must be vigilant
and cover the story,
- Or our rights will be
consumed by Presidential glory.

leaders, not simply manipulated. Liberal is not a dirty word and the
search for truth transcends partisan ideology. I am firmly convinced that
war doesn't determine who's right, but rather, who's is left." This
