It took over a week after Maria had hit the island, and after a lot of political pressure and embarrassing news reports, including this one, for Trump to cave in and finally waive the outrageous restrictions of the colonialist Jones Act that requires all shipping between US ports, and to the island of Puerto Rico to be done by US-owned and operated vessels. Why? Because the several shipping firms that have that monopoly, including one owned by his secretary of transportation, objected to losing a few precious weeks of their extortionate shipping fees, which can add $6000 to the price of a US car and that double the cost of food on the island.

Grotesque is the only word to describe this kind of greed during a life-and-death crisis involving 3.4 million Americans.
