The articles composing this series will be based on weekly writing assignments I completed as a participant in a spring, 2017 online study course conducted by World Beyond War, a U.S.-based global activist organization pursuing the ultimate goal of an internationally binding abolition of war. Each article will discuss one of eight bedrock convictions on which the organization's project is founded, which can be summarized in two broad statements: "War is an outrage that must be abolished in humanity's own self-interest"; and "War can in fact be abolished and replaced by an alternative Global Security System that will arbitrate and enforce peaceful solutions to international conflicts." My hope for these articles is that they will help promote broader public awareness both of the need to end war and the role of World Beyond War in creating the mass anti-war movement and effective strategies it will take to achieve that end.
