Thom Hartmann, on his new book, Rebooting The American Dream, on Primarying Obama, the Nov 2 Bloodbath...

By Rob Kall

we discuss his great new book, my polls on primarying Obama, the Democratic rout on Tuesday and more.

::::::::

Notes from the interview:

What would Hamilton do?
George Washington listened to Hamilton more than
Reagan was one of the most successfully destructive presidents-- established a new paradigm for america-- trickle down economics. Reagan did a lot of damage but George W. was the worst president in history was George W. Bush. -- killed hundreds of thousands, created millions of orphans, took buffer between IRan and IRaq and destroyed it.

Took Afghanistan which the Taliban had stopped from being a narco state ... and now they're cutting deals with the narco trafficcers--
George Bush opened the gates of hell for many people around the world and created a war among the great religions.

How to cancel WTO, NAFTA, GATT, etc.?
Bush just cancelled the nuclear arms agreements.
Obama is on his way to Korea to sign another one.

Primary Obama?
Every primaried president loses.

tea-party friendly ideas?
cut war budget in half--

raise top minimum tax beyond 50% and raise capital gains tax at the same level.

Corporations make decisions based on dividends they can give to stockholders and CEOs.

Create tax situation where companies are encouraged to keep money in the company.

This isn't rocket science. We've done it before.  EVery single solution in the book is something we've done in the United STates. We've figured these things out.

Wealthy individuals have established institutions in DC and with CItizens United, bought politicians... We have to get the money out of politics.

Thom's take on the elections last Tuesday.

What Karl Rove learned is 1) you've got to keep your money secret. 2) you can't run whackadoodle candidates. Have to get candidates that are serious, but they can be kind of dumb. They can run the Dan Quayle types.

This election for the Republicans, for the transnational corporations and the billionaires in the country-- this election was the calibration.. (around 56 minutes in)

2012 is going the big prize because they want the supreme.
what kind of canidates they can run, what kind of messages they can run, whether the web is more imporant that television advertising, robocalling, how far they can push the tea party...

Tea Party: most of the tea party people are reasonably decent, scared boomers... low information voters. They hear some slogans and they think, "O yeak this is going to do it."
