Heart disease was once thought to be less of a problem for women than for men. Research now indicates that heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women in the US (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Heart Disease Facts and Statistics, 2008), while confirming that women with an intact uterus have a lower incidence of heart disease because they benefit from the uterine advantage.

Authors Bio:
Nora W. Coffey founded the Hysterectomy Educational Resources and Services Foundation (HERS) in 1982. HERS is an international non-profit organization that educates women about the lifelong functions of the female organs and the consequences of their removal, providing one-on-one counseling to more than 850,000 women throughout the last 25 years and information to millions of people worldwide. She has lectured widely, been a guest on most talk shows and news programs, has been interviewed in most major newspapers and magazines, and is the co-author of The H Word: what gynecology doesn't want you know about 100 years of hysterectomy and female castration in America, to be released by February '09.
