Bergdahl was not ordered to serve time in prison. “The decision on Sergeant Bergdahl is a complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military,” Trump tweeted shortly after the sentencing. Trump also called the soldier a “traitor” at least 45 times while he was campaigning. “We’re tired of Sgt. Bergdahl, who’s a traitor, a no-good traitor, who should have been executed,” Trump said during an October 2015 campaign rally. During an Iowa campaign rally months later, Trump suggested Bergdahl should be “thrown out of an airplane without a parachute.”
