How should we deal with Trump supporters and conservatives?

By Don Smith

How should we deal with with Trump supporters and conservatives? The answer may vary depending on whether the Trump supporters are extended family members, strangers online, or coworkers.

The answer may vary depending on whether the Trump supporters or conservatives are extended family members, strangers online, at town meetings, or coworkers.

1. Avoid discussing politics with them, to keep the peace and to avoid frustration and wasted energy. Clearly, Trump supporters and conservatives either are socoiopathic or are brainwashed. In either case, it's useless to argue with them.

2. Discuss politics politely, if you can do so without conflict, but avoid (verbal) fights.

3. Pick verbal fights, backed by facts and cogent arguments. Argue vociferously and feel free to insult and ridicule them, because they are a danger to our nation and the world.

4. Institute major peaceful social unrest and try to ban such views from being acceptable in polite society. (Think Nazi Germany.)

I generally follow strategies 1 and 2, even online. But given the danger to our nation and the world from Trump and Republican policies, perhaps we need more militancy in the form of 3 and 4.
