Only Guns Allowed In Schools

By katherine moore

This is a short article that describes how I feel about guns in schools.

::::::::

I abhor the NRA and everything that they stand for; however, I taught school in the deep south during the early days of integration. We had drills on how to lock our classroom doors and protect our children from harm during a race riot. How many children died during the school-integration riots? None in my district. We had trained law enforcement in every high school to "keep the peace." It is a "no brainer." It will take years to get rid of all of the assault weapons on the street. Teachers should NEVER be expected to carry guns. Every school district should include in their budgets the costs of a law enforcement officer at every school. Can you put a price on our children's heads?

In November, 2002, Ms Moore was arrested and charged with DUI. She was handcuffed with her hands behind her back, tossed in the back of a police car with the instructions to "slide your fanny over." At the police station, Moore blew .00 twice on the Breathalyzer, and the magistrate still issued an arrest warrant. Moore and her family endured years of harassment.
Ms Moore has served her community in many high profile positions, including the board of trustees of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, second vice president of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the New Hanover County Human Relations Commission, and served on the Parent's Council of Wake Forest University.
