An Admittedly Overly Simplistic Theory Regarding Why Obama Won

Political elections (particularly in this country), are usually very complicated affairs. And the one just past is far from being an exception. But one basic point (which may or may not have already been pointed out elsewhere), is one that I think was fundamental to Obama's victory.

It is simply this: Most, Democratic voters (not only Progressives) were absolutely terrified at the prospect of a Romney win, and therefore came out en mass to vote, if only to prevent another Bush-like catastrophe. And, I believe this was true whether or not they were particularly favorably disposed towards Obama in the first place. The alternative was simply unacceptable.
