Poems For Those Who Like To Think

By Doug Soderstrom

Poems for those who would rather read well-written poetry about life and death rather than sitting in front of and watching television programmed for a twelve-year-old mind!

::::::::

The Most Dangerous Thing One Can Do

The most dangerous thing,
One can do,
Is to,
Tell the truth,
The sentence,
For which,
One way,
Or the other
Is always,
Death!

Life as a Boat

Entering upon,
The waves of time,
The wooden hull,
Sinks.

Revenge

Torn necklace,
Barren throat,
Disconnected beads,
Threads of death.

The Ship of Life

Aboard the ship of life we sail,
From birth to death...... our body a jail,
With ticket in hand,
Yet no place to land,
The ship will sink, but the spirit shall prevail.

Isn't It Amazing

Isn't it amazing,
How men,
Who have chosen,
To hate each other,
Seem not,
To remember,
What they have always,
Had in common,
The fact,
Of their humanity,
The fact,
That they have each,
Been created,
In the image,
Of God.

Good News on the Gridiron

There seems,
To be,
Movement in,
The extremities.

Death

And then death,
Wind of the Spirit's sweet breath,
Blown upon her body,
For the last time.
Written for my mother-in-law, Mrs. William Neal Phelps, a week before she died.

You Can't Kill a Dead Man

You can't kill a dead man,
And,
Believe me,
I am not afraid to die.

Lily Pads of Love

Lily pads of love,
Scattered,
Throughout time,
Like the buds,
Of springtime's birth,
Life coming back,
From the edge,
Of death,
A promise,
Of something better,
To come.
