Chris Hedges says roll over, I say no.
::::::::
One last squeak
about the protest demonstration in Washington D.C. tomorrow that, when I
first heard about it from IndictBushNow,
promised to bring "tens of thousands to denounce Bush-era criminal wars"
but which is being studiously ignored by the "progressive media" as far as I can
tell (see here).
If you listen to Chris
Hedges, as I said in my comment on his article "We
Stand on the Cusp of One of Humanity's Most Dangerous Moments," headlined today on OpEdNews,
you may consider going to the demonstration (more info here) just to feel better about
yourself, but don't think it will do any good. We are doomed by forces
beyond our control, says Mr. Hedges, but if we want to get to heaven we
should keep protesting anyhow.
Me have big problem with
this. Me also have big problem with a previous article of Mr. Hedges in
which he pooh-poohs our beloved ray of light, the internet, as "The
Information Super-Sewer."
He apparently doesn't like it the way it is. I do. I can explain that
very easily. On Mr. Hedges' internet, you would not be reading this,
although you would be reading all of Mr. Hedges' articles.
As I noted in my comment
today, consider that Hedges, like Noam Chomsky, does not question the
official story of 9/11. Why is this important? It is important because
if you think somebody other than 19 lapdance-loving whiskey-swilling
devout suicidal box-cutter-carrying aeronautically-challenged Arabs
controlled from a cave in Afghanistan (assisted by the Omnipotent Khalid, Sheikh
of Sheikhs, soon to be dispatched) defeated the U.S. Air Force four times in one day, you
will not be so ready to roll over and die (or at least roll over) in
acceptance of the forces that Hedges sees as immutable and inevitable.
Whose interest does it
serve to embrace this message of doom, combined with a feckless
admonition to "keep protesting" even though it will do no good? Not
even Noam Chomsky is that negative.
I will not be in
Washington D.C. tomorrow. It's an ocean away. I hope Chris Hedges will
be, though, as well as Noam Chomsky, and I hope somebody asks them how
and why they can be so smart about so much and so stupid about 9/11. But
I would not hold my breath for their answer.
