The United States Army recently initiated a policy where a soldier can face court martial for becoming pregnant. According to Stars and Stripes.com (12/22/09), Major General Anthony Cucolo said this: "The message to my female soldiers is that I need you for the duration...please think before you act."

She is a soldier.

She took an oath to serve her country in the finest military force in the world.

Her commitment to defend means she must be physically and mentally strong.

She denies herself.

She eats the right food.

She exercises intensely.

She is a good soldier, now carrying a new life.

She can no longer deny herself.

Her unborn baby dictates what she eats, and how she exercises.

She can be an active soldier. She can be pregnant.

Just not at the same time.

She has regrets, not anguish, for she has already chosen.

When she volunteered, she knew of the obligation to be physically able for missions.

Alas, her choice to be pregnant countermands her choice to be a solder.

No need for a court-martial.

Ms. Werdlow Rogers has been a speaker on numerous occasions among diverse audiences, including national professional conferences, colleges and universities, and at numerous training seminars. Ms. Werdlow Rogers has received numerous awards.
